My name is Matt and I’ve worked at John Flynn Hospital for 27 years and 5 months.

Describe your job without using a position title?

In my job I see people who have a new cancer diagnosis and offer them time, support, information and referral to those specialties that will contribute to their overall well-being during cancer treatment.

What motivates you and why?

I am motivated by a want to ensure people feel like we see them as individuals that deserve our time and commitment at a time when they are most vulnerable.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I am learning to speak Italian right now, Bellissimo!

What does the Year of Health and Care Workers mean to you?

A way to recognise a group of people that work hard every day to care for those who need us.

What would you say to inspire future generations of workers in health care?

Working in health care can be a lifelong reward if we measure it through a focus on how we have helped others.
