Murray practices in the field of pain management offering effective and practical solutions to acute and chronic pain. He is the lead author of a number of research projects and trained, lectured and demonstrated a range of pain management techniques in Australia and Asia. He has an interest in interventional pain medicine using advanced techniques such as nerve and joint blocks, epidural injections, radiofrequency treatment, spinal cord stimulation, spinal drug pumps and other advanced techniques combined with a multidisciplinary team approach.

Dr Murray Taverner, is a qualified medical practitioner currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency. Dr Taverner has been in practice as an anaesthetist and pain medicine specialist at Frankston Hospital and in private practice since 1991 and a full time Pain Medicine specialist since 1998. Dr Taverner is a visiting medical officer in the Peninsula lntegrated Pain Service at Frankston Hospital, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Perioperative Medicine at Monash University since 2002. He is a founding member and director of Neuromodulation Society Australia and New Zealand. He was elected to the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia as a board member in 2020.
Murray completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Batchelor Surgery at Monash University. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetics (London) and Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia. He has a Graduate Diploma Medicine - Pain Management (Sydney University) and is a fellow of the Faculty Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia and Fellow of lnterventional Pain Practice through the world lnstitute of Pain.
Murray's mission is to provide the highest standards of comprehensive pain management to maximise function, while minimising pain and suffering. His areas of interest include managing back pain, neuropathic pain, radicular pain and sciatica, neck, shoulder and arm pain, facial pains/headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, complex regional pain syndrome, male and female pelvic pain, post-surgical pain syndromes and refractory cancer pain.
Murray uses a multidisciplinary approach using techniques such as pain management education, medication review and adjustment, intensive rehabilitation programs, psychological strategies together with interventional treatments such as nerve blocks, epidural and transforaminal injections, diagnostic and therapeutic infusions, radiofrequency treatment, percutaneous intradiscal therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and advanced pain treatments such as spinal cord stimulators, drug pumps and other advanced techniques.
