Dr Stephen Lee is a gynaecologist and advanced laparoscopic surgeon recently appointed Director of Postgraduate Medical Education at King Edwards Memorial Hospital. Prior to relocating to Perth, Dr Lee completed a two-year laparoscopic gynaecology fellowship at Royal Womens' Hospital in Melbourne. He was under the direct supervision of Dr Catarina Ang, Head of Gynaecology 1 Unit. During the fellowship, he was able to refine and perfect essential minimally invasive gynaecology skills such as:- Total and subtotal laparoscopic hysterectomy;- Laparoscopic myomectomy;- Laparoscopic treatment of severe endometriosis;- Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS); and - Operative hysteroscopy for uterine fibroids, uterine anomalies, intrauterine synechiae, proximal tubal obstruction.
Before the laparoscopic gynaecology fellowship, Dr Lee completed basic obstetrics and gynaecology training at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne. Subsequently he was a Research Fellow under the guidance of A/Prof Sue Walker and A/Prof Stephen Tong of Mercy Hospital for Women and University of Melbourne investigating intrauterine growth retardation before he travelled to Nottingham Univeristy Hospital in the United Kingdom to work as a Clinical Fellow in Urogynaecology under the supervision of urogynaecologist Dr Paul Hooper.
