Noosa Hospital is pleased to introduce Dr Lydia Pitcher. She is a dual qualified Haematologist/Oncologist who graduated with honours in Medicine in 1987.

She interrupted her medical studies to undertake research and a thesis concerning breast cancer, for a Bachelor of Medical Science in 1985. She began her training in Paediatrics (FRACP) and Haematological Pathology (FRCPA) in Brisbane, at the Royal Brisbane, Women’s and Children’s and Mater Hospital complexes and completed her training in London, at the Hospital for Children, Great Ormond Street.

Lydia has since worked as a consultant haematologist/oncologist and stem cell transplant physician in Brisbane, and Auckland, New Zealand, and has extensive experience in clinical and laboratory Haematology, in both private and public settings. Her interests span both malignant and non-malignant haematology, haemostasis and thrombosis, haemoglobinopathies and late effects of chemotherapy. She also maintains her long term involvement research, teaching and medical ethics.

Lydia’s professional memberships include the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Australian and New Zealand Children’s Haematology Oncology Group, the Paediatric Society of Queensland, and the Australian Medical Association.

Lydia believes that good communication with the patient’s referring doctors/ primary physicians is essential. She will be available for consults at Noosa Hospital on alternate Wednesdays.
