The development will significantly increase the facility’s capacity, ensuring that more Victorians have adequate and timely access to private mental health care services into the future. Subject to development approval from the City of Port Phillip Melbourne and in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Clinic will increase to 128 beds and the current facilities will be refurbished to accommodate enhanced programs. Albert Road Clinic is one of Victoria’s largest private providers of inpatient, day and outreach treatment for people suffering from a range of mental health disorders. The Clinic also offers a number of specialised treatment units including adolescent, addiction and old age psychiatry. Hospital CEO Jane Pickworth said the expansion would ensure quality mental health services were more accessible to people with a mental illness. “We recognise the vital role we play as a premier provider of mental health care in Victoria. We are incredibly excited to be part of this growth initiative.” Construction is set to commence in 2017 with completion estimated late 2018. DEVELOPMENT NEWS The new development will see the opening of the first private Emergency Centre within the Ipswich and West Moreton Region, meaning that patients and their families will no longer have to travel to Brisbane to receive private emergency care. It is also estimated that approximately 300 hospital roles, clinical and non-clinical, will be created as a result of this expansion. A new Intensive Care Unit will support the Emergency Centre and expanding surgical services via the addition of two operating theatres, with an accompanying 81 new private patient rooms, increasing the capacity of the hospital from 97 to 178 beds in total. Maternity and paediatric services are at the forefront of redevelopment plans, with a predicted 5% population growth to occur within the region by 2031. A new 26 bed Maternity Unit will provide young families with quality local obstetric and paediatric services, supported by two new labour delivery suites. Rehabilitation services will also benefit from the project, with the redesign facilitating the provision of a 21 bed rehabilitation ward with accompanying gymnasium. A new multi-story car park will also provide plenty of on-campus parking, promoting easy access to the hospital. The redevelopment will also provide a new front entry, expanded reception areas and retail support space. Hospital CEO, Chris Went, commented that the new development would create job opportunities and growth within a myriad of Ipswich industries; an increase in private health care services, together with services provided by the Ipswich Public Hospital, would cement the major medical precinct which has been created in the Ipswich Central Business District. “This is an exciting next step for St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital and the Ipswich Community.
