Ramsay’s Speak Up For Patient Safety
(SUFPS) Program has reached an
exciting new milestone: all Australian
hospitals and clinics have either
completed, commenced, or are about to
start rolling out the national initiative.
SUFPS is a Vanderbilt-based Cognitive Institute
Programme which focuses on addressing
behaviours that are a risk to patient safety and
encourages staff to challenge those behaviours.
Components of the programme include graded
assertiveness language training for all patient-facing
staff, a feedback platform for staff to
report experiences (positive and negative), and a
peer messenger system.
Feedback platforms have been turned on for
sites in Queensland, New South Wales, South
Australia and Western Australia after they
successfully implemented the program.
St George Private Hospital, Kareena Private
Hospital and all South Australia facilities were
the most recent sites to ‘go live’.
Chief Risk Officer (Australia), Chanelle McEnallay,
said more than 100 entries have already been
received through the feedback platforms.
“This indicates excellent awareness across the
facilities which have ‘gone live’. More than 80%
of all feedback entries have received a peer
messenger response and 90% received a peer
messenger response or higher. Furthermore,
there have been no poor outcomes reported
from peer messenger conversations,”
Ms McEnallay said.
The next group of hospitals is due to commence
their roll-out later this year.

Ramsay Health Care
sends Bears to School
Australia’s oldest living recipient of the Victoria
Cross, Keith Payne, is on a mission to educate
school children about their nation’s proud Anzac
heritage.
Through the Bears to School program, Mr Payne and his
team aim to place a Great War uniformed teddy bear in every
classroom in Australia by encouraging communities and
businesses to donate a bear to their local school. Each bear is
accompanied by a story card and specially developed learning
resources and activities to be used in class or at home.
Ramsay Health Care has joined this special initiative as
a corporate supporter of Bears to School by donating
five bears – one to a school in each state where Ramsay
operates facilities. It was the biggest single donation the
campaign had received from a corporate supporter.
Craig McNally, CEO of Ramsay Health Care, explained
that supporting Bears to School was another example of
Ramsay’s strong commitment to Australian veterans and
their families.
“As we commemorate the final year of the centenary of WWI,
it is more important than ever to educate the next generation
about our past to ensure the magnitude of those sacrifices is
never forgotten. We hope our support of the Bears to School
initiative helps to preserve the legacy of our military history”.
