Ramsay Staff Rally to Support Red Cross Blood Challenge Ramsay Health Care has joined in to support the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s Red25 Health Services Blood Challenge, which provides businesses with the opportunity to encourage their employees to donate blood. Ramsay Chief Operating Officer Kate Munnings said the Blood Service requires 25,000 donations every week to meet the demand of patients in need. Approximately 30 percent of donated blood helps treat people with cancer, and 2 percent goes to trauma. The rest goes towards treating serious medical issues ranging from pregnancy complications to immune conditions and heart disease. “One in three people will need a blood donation during their lives,” said Kate, “but only one in 30 people donate. “A long time donor and colleague of Ramsay found this out first hand last year. David Crowe, CEO of Wollongong Private Hospital has kindly shared his story in this edition of The Ramsay Way.” (See page 3). Last year, health employees registered to the Red25 gave over 3,280 donations, which saved up to 9,860 lives. This year the Blood Service are hoping the Challenge will be even bigger and Ramsay employees have been helping.
