Porter of Harvard Business School, the Swedish Karolinska Institutet, and Boston Consulting Group, to enable health care systems worldwide to measure and report patient outcomes in a standardized way.Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex said the Company’s Strategic Alliance with ICHOM represents the organizations’ long-term commitment to driving value in health care around the world. “Outcomes measurement is not about technical outputs, but focuses on key results that matter most to patients and deliver value. For example, what matters to a patient after heart surgery is ‘can they climb stairs after the surgery and by when?’ (versus the technical, medical output of pump function of the heart after surgery). “At Ramsay Health Care we are committed to delivering superior quality care throughout our hospitals for every patient, every day. Continuous measurement of what we deliver for patients will provide a key input into innovation and quality improvement. www.ramsayhealth.com SAINT ANDREW'S IPSWICH WELCOMES PRIVATE REHABILITATION SERVICES AUSTRALIAN FIRST VIRTUAL REALITY TEST AT HOLLYWOOD PRIVATE 04 05 CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN MINIMALY INVASIVE GYNAECOLOGY AT JOONDALUP PRIVATE GREENSLOPES OFFERS LATEST SINGLE INCISION ROBOTIC HYSTERECTOMY 08 09 DUDLEY INTER-HOSPITAL EVENT WEIGHS IN ON OBESITY EPEDEMIC NEW INJECTABLE MONITOR HELPING JOHN FLYNN CARDIOLOGISTS 13 14 Ramsay announces Strategic Alliance with ICHOM Ramsay Health Care has announced a strategic alliance with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), becoming the first multinational hospital group to partner with the US-based organisation which is focused on discovering what matters most to patients. Ramsay Health Care (UK) Limited and Crédit Agricole Assurances completed the acquisition of a controlling interest in Générale de Santé in October 2014. The newly merged entity, which includes 115 facilities (101 hospitals) and employs over 20,000 staff in France, will henceforth be known as Ramsay Générale de Santé. Ramsay Générale de Santé is the largest private hospital group in France. Integration of the two hospital portfolios will now proceed. Three Ramsay Health Care hospitals have topped the most recent HCF patient experience survey of 12,000 members across 100 hospitals. Southern Highlands Private Hospital, Frances Perry House and Nowra Private Hospital received top scores from patients in terms of how likely they would be to recommend the hospital to a friend or colleague. Ramsay’s Tamara and Berkeley Vale Private Hospitals o appeared in the top 10 list. The survey also measured the likelihood of patients recommending the medical team at the hospital and Ramsay facilities: Lake Macquarie and Southern Highlands Private Hospital, as well as Frances Perry House, appear in the top 10 highly recommended medical teams in an overnight facility. Ramsay Australia CEO Danny Sims said he was pleased by the results. “It’s a great achievement for so many Ramsay hospitals to top the list of 100 hospitals surveyed,” Danny said. “These results are a ringing endorsement that these hospitals have met their customers’ expectations. This is a great achievement by these Ramsay facilities and I congratulate their staff and doctors.” HCF Medical Director Dr Andrew Cottril said the process of benchmarking encourages hospitals to perform better and respond to customer feedback, allowing greater transparency in the delivery of health services. NATIONWIDE SURVEY TOP SCORES RAMSAY HOSPITALS “Our doctors have welcomed this new measurement approach and will work together with us to measure and then benchmark patient-focused outcomes.” Ramsay’s first areas of focus with ICHOM will be prostate cancer, low back pain, and depression and anxiety. Patients’ outcomes will be measured according to the recommendations of the ICHOM Standard Sets. The results of their care will be monitored for a year or more, during and after treatment, through surveys and interviews, on quality of life and self-sufficiency, for example. Since its founding in 2012, ICHOM has developed 12 Standard Sets. In the next year, ICHOM will facilitate the development of Standard Sets for up to eight more conditions, including colorectal cancer, dementia, care for older persons, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), heart failure and pregnancy. As an ICHOM partner, Ramsay Health Care is in in the good company of several leading medical institutions, including the Boston Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, and Erasmus MC in the Netherlands. ■
