Professor Gin Malhi, Medical Director of Northside Clinic’s Mood Disorders Unit, is the recipient of The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Citation Award for 2015. Professor Malhi was selected for his outstanding service to the College and for his significant contributions to improving the quality of psychiatric knowledge and practice, both in Australia and New Zealand and internationally. 100th birthday party celebration at Pindara Private Rental Unit In receiving the ‘Dr Camille Michener Legacy Award’, Dr Zorbas was recognised for his significant and outstanding contribution to the medical profession and the community in areas such as teaching and education; leadership and advocacy; and doctor’s wellbeing and community service. Dr Zorbas has been employed by Ramsay Health Care since 2011 and he currently works in JHC’s Emergency Department. A natural leader and Co-Chair of the AMA WA’s Doctors in Training (DiT) Committee, Dr Zorbas is a dedicated and hardworking junior doctor. Dr Zorbas said winning the award was a “lovely surprise”. “We don’t do what we do for the recognition, but it’s always nice when your peers congratulate you,” Dr Zorbas said. “I’m privileged to work with such a great group of staff and I’m privileged to work in a job where people let you into their lives to help.” The award was presented at the AMA’s Gala Dinner and Charitable Awards Ceremony, which is held annually to recognise great achievements in health leadership and medical research. AMA (WA) President Dr Michael Gannon said it was a “true honour to present the awards to West Australians who have had such a tremendously positive impact to health care in our state”. ■ Pindara Private Renal Unit staff had that pleasure on Tuesday 11 August, when the Hospital staged a surprise birthday party for the Gold Coast’s newest (and most glamorous) centenarian, the very sprightly Mrs Dorothy Grigg. Dorothy, whose life spans two world wars and the great depression, attributes her longevity to leading a busy and full life and eating healthy. While Dorothy says she marvels at today’s technology she is most excited about the advances being made in medical science. A former dental nurse, Dorothy has always been interested in health and helping others. Pindara Renal Unit staff also surprised Kokoda war veteran, Clarence Meredith, with a huge birthday cake to celebrate his 95th birthday on Thursday, 6th August 2015. Clarence was delighted with the cake and the warm birthday wishes he received from the Hospital Executive and staff. ■
