The Ramsay Way 2015 | 03 7 INTERNATIONAL R A M S AY S I M E D A R B Y Ara Damansara assists with flood relief efforts Earlier this year, when Malaysia was battling some of the worst floods in decades due to weeks of heavy downpour and strong winds, many villages and towns were submerged in muddy water. Without electricity and cut off from the rest of the country, more than 100,000 people were forced to leave their homes. Staff and doctors from Ramsay Sime Darby’s Ara Damansara Medical Centre, together with the assistance of the two other Ramsay Sime Darby hospitals in Malaysia, took the lead to provide aid to victims. With the support of colleagues, family and friends, the hospitals managed to collect 170 cartons of mineral water, close to 100 boxes of canned/dry food, basic hygiene kits, other daily essentials and 12 boxes of clothes — some were purchased with the money contributed for the cause. In addition, RM5000 worth of medicine were also purchased to be distributed to the affected areas. All the donated items were distributed to the flood affected areas. Meenatharisni Sundramohana who works in Customer Care at Ara Damansara Medical Centre said the massive effort would not have been achieved it was not for the kind-hearted donors; Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care management team, ADMC’s benevolent doctors and staff, family members and friends. “It was a heartbreaking time for all — both for the victims and the volunteers. You could never imagine the severity of the floods until you see it with your own eyes. “The suffering of the victims was heartbreaking, and it made me realize how blessed I was. But most of all, this experience has shown me the importance of giving and helping those in need.” “I am proud to be a part of a great cause and of ADMC’s initiative to help the victims. It would not have been possible if not for the leadership and support of the hospital management teams and the ER physicians particularly Dr Asad Siddiqui for lending his medical expertise and who was in constant communications with the NGOs involved.” ■ Staff and volunteers join the clean up effort Medical equipment destroyed by the flood National Scholarship Program Once again we are pleased to offer our 2016 National Scholarship Program.
