The 151 bed private hospital located in the heart of Wollongong will set a new benchmark for healthcare facilities in the Illawarra area, featuring state-of-the-art equipment, facilities and patient services. The hospital structure is rapidly approaching completion with the last floor currently under construction and the roof planned for erection within the next few months. The façade installation including cladding and windows has commenced to the lower levels and will continue progressively on the upper floors of the building. Fit out of hospital floors is now well underway with installation of services and partition walls well progressed in areas including the operating theatres, ICU/CCU and recovery. Preparation to open is well underway, and excitement continues to build amongst staff, doctors and the community. L-R: Hollywood Private Hospital CEO Peter Mott; Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex; & Hollywood Private’s Property Manager Wayne Williams, review plans for the expansion of Hollywood Private Hospital. Ramsay leaders visit Hollywood construction site John Flynn expands Rehab CEO’s report Ramsay Health Care continues to lead the way in mental health care. In this edition of The Ramsay Way, we announce the extension of two mental health services in Queensland at Hillcrest in Rockhampton and New Farm Clinic in Brisbane. I have also recently visited our newly expanded clinic at Hollywood Private Hospital in Perth which is an outstanding facility. We are building more beds at The Northside West Clinic, with a 21 bed unit specifically devoted to eating disorders making Ramsay by far, the largest provider of acute facilities for people with eating disorders, and we have recently opened more beds at our Mitcham Clinic in Melbourne. As the largest operator of private acute mental health services in both Australia and France, we are cognisant of the growing need for mental health care. Mental and behavioural disorders such as depression, anxiety and drug and alcohol use, and rates third as a broad disease group after cancer and cardiovascular disease. Mental illness is also more likely to drive an increase in physical disorders. Many research studies have shown that when people receive appropriate mental health care, their use of medical services declines and, in the workplace, good mental health is associated with higher productivity, better performance, more consistent work attendance, and fewer workplace accidents. Ramsay Health Care has a proud history of providing mental health services since 1964 and it is very pleasing to see our units not only expanding but also improving in their design and quality of facilities and services to ensure that we maximise the opportunity to improve our patients’ health. In this issue, we announce the appointment of Bronte Kumm to head up Ramsay’s Asian operations where we are a joint venture partner with the Malaysian international company Sime Darby. In the Asian region we currently operate six hospitals and a nursing and health sciences college. Bronte has been with Ramsay Health Care for over 10 years managing our Victorian and Sydney operations and has 24 years experience in senior management healthcare positions. With our plans well-established to expand in the Asian region, we are looking forward to Bronte’s commencement this March. Bronte’s appointment completes the Executive appointments within Ramsay’s Global team which were announced in the last edition of TRW. The Australian office is finalising their team including the appointment of a Chief Operating Officer (COO) and we expect these positions to be finalised in the coming months. I would like to wish you all a happy and safe Easter. IN FEBRUARY, RAMSAY HEALTH CARE MANAGING DIRECTOR CHRIS REX & RAMSAY AUSTRALIA CEO DANNY SIMS, TOURED THE NEW THEATRES & WARDS WHICH ARE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT HOLLYWOOD PRIVATE HOSPITAL & DUE FOR COMPLETION LATER THIS YEAR. THEY ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE NEW HOLLYWOOD CLINIC WHICH OPENED IN MAY 2014. “It’s great to be back at Hollywood looking at another fantastic major construction in full swing,” Chris said during the visit. The new developments will house six additional stateof the-art operating theatres appointed with the latest diagnostic and surgical equipment and a dedicated robotic surgery theatre. On completion of the current development, Hollywood will have over 700 beds and 16 operating theatres, making it the State’s largest private hospital (based on bed size). JOHN FLYNN PRIVATE HOSPITAL OPENED ITS THIRD REHABILITATION WARD ON LEVEL 5 OF THE FRED MCKAY BUILDING IN FEBRUARY. The new ward boasts a luxurious setting with spacious rooms for 19 patients. Each room presents spectacular views through the addition of new window louvres that provide a number of pleasing effects. The dining room also features 180 degree views of the coastline which have proven to be such an attraction that the staff have invested in a pair of ward binoculars for patients to view the distant Gold Coast Airport and local wildlife. The ward also draws on patient comfort with an emphasis on less clutter with emergency equipment being cleverly integrated into the wood paneling of each room to make it feel more like a home away from home, and PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) housed in a new sophisticated wall design. The inaugural patient, Mrs Cynthia Dawes, was given a tour of the ward and the opportunity to choose her room as part of the opening celebrations. Feedback from Mrs Dawes included thanks to the staff for their professional approach, and how much she enjoyed being the first patient into the ward. With most of the staff in the new ward being new to Ramsay Health Care, this was a great boost to the team which has brought experience and expertise from a number of settings.
