The Ramsay Way - Autumn 2015

HOSPITALNEWS The Ramsay Way - 2015 | 01 5 Hello, my name is Florence! In November 2014, Hollywood Private Hospital acquired the latest da Vinci Surgical System, the da Vinci Xi. To coincide with its arrival, Hollywood ran a competition to find a suitable name for this state-of-the-art technology. Entries were received by 123 staff who suggested 276 different names for the robot. The Executive team had an enjoyable morning reviewing the entry forms and after much deliberation selected a name. They announced that the robot will be called Florence. Florence is the birth place of Leonardo da Vinci but also pays homage to Florence Nightingale. Florence’s name was suggested by Jackie McKenzie, SSD (bottom right - now at Joondalup Health Campus). Dr Cathryn Edrich FROM REMOTE FOETAL HEARTBEAT MONITORING THROUGH TO SIMULATED OBSTETRIC WORKSHOPS, ST GEORGE PRIVATE HAS COME A LONG WAY IN BABY CARE SINCE FIRST OPENING IN 1995 – GROWING A STRONG REPUTATION LOCALLY FOR PROVIDING EXCELLENT CLINICAL CARE FROM ITS DOCTORS, NURSES & MIDWIVES. In 2015 the hospital celebrates 20 years and during that time has delivered 25,000 babies. Izzy Ribar born shortly after St George Private first opened in 1995, turns 20 this year and still has her original baby slippers. Nicki Louizos is the 7th baby born at the hospital and his brother Alex was also born at St George Private Hospital. Patients rank Hollywood Private Hospital number… New technology for cataract patients at John Flynn Private HOLLYWOOD PRIVATE HOSPITAL HAS BEEN RANKED NUMBER ONE IN A NATIONAL SURVEY MEASURING PATIENT SATISFACTION IN THE CATEGORIES OF PRIVATE HOSPITALS WITH OVER 300 BEDS AND PRIVATE HOSPITALS WITH GREATER THAN 150 BEDS. The survey was conducted by Press Ganey, a world leader in organisational performance measurement. Hollywood first partnered with the international research company in 2001 and continues to use the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction tool to measure a number of components of patient satisfaction across the hospital. Terry Grundy, Managing Director of Press Ganey in Australia said: “For many years Hollywood has been a high performer in delivering what we call ‘Compassionate, Connected Care’, but the latest results provides evidence that the patient experience at Hollywood Private Hospital has hit a new high, an outcome even more remarkable given that the hospital has been undergoing significant building works and redevelopment”. The most recent result (July – September quarter 2014), saw Hollywood achieve the highest position for Australian hospitals of a comparative size. Continuing with the “Amazing Service” strategy, Hollywood has started measuring Consistency of Experience using the international Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems model (HCAHPS). Hollywood is benchmarked comparatively against four peer hospital groups globally which makes the results even more significant. Hollywood CEO Peter Mott said “These results in both ‘Satisfaction with Experience’ and the ‘Consistency of Experience’ reflect the continued focus and work undertaken at all levels to ensure that Hollywood Private Hospital not only provides safe and quality care but that the expectations of patients and their families are being met. “At a time when we are undergoing a major expansion of our facilities, our ability to remain focused on delivering the highest quality patient care is paramount.” Press Ganey recently conducted an employee survey measuring workplace perception and job satisfaction, Hollywood Private Hospital was ranked as the best performing hospital in Australia in the category of private hospitals with 151 or more beds. “At Hollywood, our philosophy is ‘people caring for people’. High quality patient care and employee morale are our highest priorities and I am thrilled at the results of the two surveys in close succession” continued Mr Mott. For the 1.5 million people living with cataracts in Australia, a new and exciting intraocular lens technology has just become available at John Flynn Private Hospital. The TECNIS® Symfony lens will help to significantly reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses, giving patients an extended range of vision that will result in an increased level of freedom from glasses for all distances. Dr Cathryn Edrich from See View Eye Specialist Clinic at John Flynn Private Hospital, Tugun, has successfully implanted these lenses since they were recently made available in Australia at the end of 2014. “I became very interested in this lens after discovering that it offers significant advances over previous technologies. “It is quite similar to a traditional lens implant but with the added benefits of improved reading and contrast, yet with a much reduced incidence of glare, halos and other visual effects, familiar to other lens designs. “Consequently it is not subject to the usual limitations and drawbacks associated with some of the other lens implants, making it a great visual solution for a much wider audience of refractive cataract patients,” said Dr Edrich. “My experience so far has been very positive. I have seen a very high level of patient satisfaction with regards to both quality of vision and ability to see well close up, right through to far distance. By what my patients are saying, I feel that this lens implant represents a significant step forward, with the potential to help a much larger number of patients, many of whom perhaps would not have been suitable candidates for previous lens technologies,” added Dr Edrich.
