The project led by leading Australian demographer and KPMG Partner, Bernard Salt, produced Beyond the Horizon, a comprehensive market analysis forecasting Australian Demographer Bernard Salt will head up the Future Gold Coast Project the future of the Gold Coast and identifying opportunities for growth and investment in the fastest growing city in Australia. Pindara CEO, Trish Hogan said she was specifically interested in the predication that the population of the Gold Coast is projected to grow by 104% from 538,000 in 2013 to 1,099,000 in 2050. She said the subsequent increase in age in the local population may lead to a 130% increase in demand for private hospital beds by 2050. “Our planning for the future of hospital services at our Ramsay facilities on the Gold Coast, needs to ensure we understand the extent of the population demand increases being anticipated and that we are capable of meeting this demand.” Beyond the Horizon was launched at a business breakfast sponsored by Pindara and attended by 800 business leaders from across South East Queensland. New Caledonia patient returns to thank rehab team New Caledonian and CAFAT patient Mr Christian Poircuitte recently travelled from Noumea to thank the Mt Wilga Private Hospital Neurological Rehabilitation Team and share his incredible journey with current inpatients at the facility who are also from New Caledonia. Mr Poircuitte suffered a severe traumatic brain injury two and half years ago when he was attacked whilst working as a taxi driver. He was transferred to Mt Wilga after spending one month at Westmead Private Hospital, to commence intensive rehabilitation treatment. Upon admission, Mr Poircuitte was hemiparetic and nonverbal but today, he is independent, has regained his speech, is walking well and has returned to driving. “You all took wonderful care of me, the team were great!” Mr Poircuitte said. “My health was catastrophic, and in spite of the support of my wife, my family and friends, I would not have been able to go home without your help. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity.” RAMSAYFRANCE Franciscaines continues to innovate in spinal surgery Clinique des Franciscaines in Versailles is continuing to demonstrate leadership in advanced spinal surgery with the introduction of O-ARM® technology and a ninth fully integrated operating suite to accommodate the new equipment. Dr. Jean-François Lepeintre, neurosurgeon at Clinique des Franciscaines said the technology would allow improved visualisation to complete complex spinal surgery. The Hospital says: “Patients will benefit from the new equipment which provides real-time, intra-operating imaging of a patient’s anatomy with high quality images and a large field-of-view in both two and three dimensions.” Clinique hosts cancer & meaning of life exhibition Clinique du Mousseau (CMCO d’Evry) has recently hosted a three month the exhibition titled: “Cancer and Meaning of Life”. The idea for the photo exhibition was borne from a meeting of caregivers (doctors and nurses), who are often the witnesses of the silent and daily struggles of loved ones with cancer and was initiated by Dr Najia Pernin, a gynaecologist at Clinique du Mousseau. A range of women suffering with cancer accepted to be photographed in their daily life: before, during and after, their war with cancer. They have also been pictured together. Dr Pernin said: “Each of Chetitah’s picture gives us bright women, sometimes fragile, sometimes strong, but always magnificent. Warriors of modern times.” The exhibition was supported by the Association “Parenthèse” and Clinique du Mousseau - CMCO Evry. L’HÔPITAL PRIVÉ DE BOIS BERNARD HAS OPENED A NEW RESPIRATORY UNIT ON THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HOSPITAL, WHICH SERVICES A POPULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 1.2 MILLION IN THE FAR NORTH REGION OF FRANCE NEAR CALAIS. Ramsay Health Care CEO Chris Rex and Ramsay’s CEO of French operations Pascal Roché, were present for the opening of the new respiratory centre which will provide comprehensive care for patients suffering with pulmonary diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and sleep apnoea. The unit expects to treat nearly 4000 patients in its first year. Eight specialist respiratory practitioners and more than 30 trained staff are part of the team in the unit which has 26 beds plus an eight bed sleep unit. The new respiratory unit will complement other services in the 300 bed hospital, including cardiovascular services, orthopaedics, vascular surgery, urology, oncology, and nephrology.
