Part of a $50 million development at the hospital, the new Dr David Lindsay Wing, also includes new operating theatres, a neuro-vascular hybrid theatre and a brand new kitchen for the campus. A new rehabilitation unit is under development and will be open by Christmas. The additional wing which was formally opened by the Federal Health Minister Peter Dutton in September, brings Pindara Private Hospital to 335 beds making it the largest private hospital on the Coast and follows the $60 million development opened at the hospital in 2010. Hospital CEO Trish Hogan welcomed Ramsay Health Care’s investment in Pindara ($110 million over the last four years) and the new multi-level development which she said would provide a high standard of accommodation for patients as well as access to the highest quality medical and surgical services. “Pindara Private Hospital is a leading private hospital in Queensland with leading private doctors and staff. This new development will assist the hospital to meet the growing demand for private hospital services on the Gold Coast,” said Ms Hogan. The Hospital has taken a step closer to becoming a centre of excellence in neurosurgery with the opening of the Gold Coast Neuroscience Unit, on level 3 of the new Dr David Lindsay Wing. The 24 bed neuroscience ward includes a four bed close observation unit. The new wing also houses a 29 bed oncology unit and two new surgical units. Pindara’s new wing is named in honour of Dr David Lindsay. Dr Lindsay had a long association with the Hospital, having served on the Pindara Medical Advisory, Ethics and Accreditation Committees for many years. He held the position of Sub-Dean (Pindara Private Hospital) Bond University Medical School and was also actively involved in teaching medical students from Griffith University. Dr Lindsay served as President of the Gold Coast Medical Association from 2006 – 2007 and was well known and highly regarded within the Medical Community. Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex said that Pindara Private had achieved an incredible profile, thanks to the doctors and staff who work at the hospital. “It is the doctors and staff who have helped to create this great reputation and we hope that they enjoy working in these new facilities and that our patients appreciate them as well,” Mr Rex said.
