The Pathfinder Boat Clinic is a medical service providing essential maternal and child health services to the people of the villages along 400km of the Sepik River, PNG. In some of our clinics, there are more than 50 eating disorders patients on the waiting list for admission to hospital,” said Anne Mortimer, CEO of The Northside Group. “Eating disorders are a major public health problem and blight the lives of sufferers and their families. Ramsay Health Care operates over 20 mental health facilities throughout Australia and runs eating disorder treatment programs in its facilities in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney. “We hope that through our assistance the Butterfly Foundation may be able to expand its face-to-face counselling program,” Ms Mortimer said. “This program is essential and provides great support for someone who is working through recovery and essential for people who have recently left hospital and are receiving treatment and therapy from home or from community-based services.“ “We also support the Butterfly Foundation’s idea to grow its online counselling services particularly for those people who live in rural and remote areas.” The Butterfly Foundation CEO Christine Morgan was pleased to accept Ramsay Health Care’s generous donation, noting that with more than 913,000 Australians suffering from an eating disorder in 2012, public and private financial support was very much needed to reduce the prevalence. “We now know that a multidisciplinary approach to treatment models and in-community support services is required as a baseline for eating disorders treatment. Ramsay Health Care plays an important role in providing critical care for eating disorder sufferers in Australia. Their donation to Butterfly demonstrates their understanding of the many areas in which support services are needed,” said Ms Morgan. OURCOMMUNITY Ramsay donates $50,000 to eating disorders charity
