The Ramsay Way 2016 | 02 11 HOSPITALS Enhanced Recovery for Joondalup Health Campus Patients A new Enhanced Recovery Program for patients undergoing total knee replacements at Joondalup Health Campus is now in full operation with promising early results. The program was designed to improve recovery outcomes – including speed of recovery – and reduce length of stay. It involves pre-surgery group education classes, reduced fasting times, improved anaesthetic techniques, mobilising the patient sooner and ongoing support both pre and post recovery. Clinical Nurse Specialist Catherine Burns, part of the team who established the program, said the initial response from patients was overwhelmingly positive. Patient Rosemary Thompson was impressed with the structure and support of the program. “The group education classes were really good and helped me understand and prepare for my surgery,” Rosemary said. The program aims to ensure patients are both physically and mentally prepared for their surgery and the recovery journey ahead. Plans are underway to establish a similar program for hip replacements.  Governor General Visits Mt Wilga The Governor General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove attended Mt Wilga Private Hospital in April to visit former patient, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP.
