Going into battle: against Ovarian Cancer IN FEBRUARY 2014, GREENSLOPES PRIVATE HOSPITAL ONCE AGAIN LINED UP FOR THE BATTLE AGAINST OVARIAN CANCER BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT AT SANDSTORM BEACH CLUB IN BRISBANE. This was the 3rd year the team from Greenslopes has been involved as an event sponsor and this year a whopping five teams from the hospital competed on the day. One of these teams was the runner up for the day. Greenslopes Gynaecological Oncologist, Professor Andreas Obermair is also the Director of Research at the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer and was instrumental in establishing this important fundraising event. As a surgeon, Professor Obermair sees the inadequacies of current gynaecological cancer treatments daily. “Quite simply, the best gynaecological cancer treatment currently available is not good enough and can leave a woman with lasting physical and emotional effects,” Dr Obermair said. “We have kinder, gentler treatments awaiting trial right now that can deliver a better future for women. Funds raised through the Battle supports these trials and helps turn these treatments into a reality,” he said. 2014 has been another huge year for the Battle Against Ovarian Cancer with in excess of $90,000 raised for ovarian and gynaecological cancer research.
