North West Private Hospital was opened on 4 May 1984 and currently
has 92 beds plus a 10 bed Day Surgery Unit, 5 chair day Dermatology
Unit and 5 chair day Oncology Unit. We provide acute general
medical (Adult and Paediatrics); many surgical specialities including
orthopaedics, women’s health, colorectal and general surgery;
oncology, maternity, theatre, day surgery and Urodynamics. Further
expansion began in 2007.

Hospital
North West Private Hospital’s goal is to offer you a supportive
Graduate Nurse Program built around your specific learning needs.
The aim is to assist in your development to becoming a competent
and confident Registered Nurse.
The program endorses the principles of adult education and problem
based learning. We strive to create a learning environment, where
your prior experiences are a valuable resource for further learning
and construction of new knowledge.
The program will offer you the opportunity to develop your clinical
skills by rotating you through a variety of patient care settings
including the wards and peri-operative areas. You will find that
our supportive preceptors and other nursing staff will assist
you to further develop your confidence. You will have access
to a specifically tailored clinical competency program. Advancement
through this program in your graduate year gives you the knowledge,
skills and attitudes to meet the challenges of Medical, Surgical
and Perioperative nursing.
The following are just some of the things that will be offered
to you at North West Private Hospital as a part of your Graduate
Nurse Program:
- Structured paid orientation
- A choice of a medical, surgical department graduate
nurse program or the perioperative environment
- The opportunity to spend 6 months in the maternity
unit as part of your graduate program.
- Ward Rotations to areas that support your clinical
goals:
- Medical / Paediatrics
- Orthopaedics
- Women’s Health
- Colorectal / Urology/ General surgery
- Perioperative Rotations to areas that support your
clinical goals:
- Scout / Scrub
- Anaesthetics
- Recovery Room
- Day Surgery Unit/Endoscopy Unit
- CSSD
- Preceptorship throughout your graduate year including
frequent attendance to a goal planner
- Foundation Lectures relevant to each rotation
- Ward, Perioperative & Maternity Educators to
assist you in your Graduate Year
- Supernumerary periods at the beginning of each new
clinical rotation
- Copies of available Learning tools. These include
foundation theoretical notes on the various specialty areas
- Ongoing group learning activities, in services and
self - directed learning programs. This will assist you to
develop analytical
and critical skills and
integrate your knowledge within the context of the real practice
setting
- Free electronic library service providing you access
to an extensive collection of books and videos, journals, a
document delivery
and research service
and access to popular databases such as CINAHL and MEDLINE

What do you need to send?
- A brief covering letter of interest to accompany
your application
- A copy of your CV
- A copy of your university results transcript to date
- 2 of your most recent clinical performance appraisals
from the acute care clinical setting
- Outline of any Perioperative practical experience
you have during your training if interested in the Perioperative
area
- A brief statement as to why you would like to work
in either the Medical Surgical or Perioperative environment.
- Please fill out the “application for
employment” form. Click

- Include two referees (they must be a clinical preceptor
or facilitator from your clinical experience – within
the last 6 months)
- Please return “application acknowledgment” form
and include a self addressed and stamped envelope and return
it with your application if you want confirmation that we
have received your package
