Dr Brighu Swamy is an Ophthalmologist with an interest in with an interest in retina and macula surgery. His expertise is in the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with retinal conditions. His particular interests are macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and vein occlusions. Dr Swamy graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales with Honours, before completing both a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmic Science and a Master of Medicine with merit in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney. He undertook ophthalmology training at The Sydney Eye Hospital. Dr Swamy subsequently completed the Medical Retina and Uveitis fellowship at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He has the co-author of the Eye Emergency Manual, which has been distributed across all the hospitals in New South Wales. He has numerous publications in major international ophthalmology journals and is a reviewer for the RANZCO college journal. He regularly attends international meetings to keep up to date with developments in Medical Retina. He has been involved in a number of international clinical trials investigating the latest treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and uveitis and is able to bring this knowledge to his patients. He is a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney and a Visiting Medical Officer at Bankstown Hospital where he is involved in teaching and supervising the registrars.
