Dr Smith graduated from Medical School at NSW University and proceeded to undergo General Surgery training under the NSW training program, with an interest in head and neck surgery before transferring to the NSW ENT training program.

At the end of his ENT training, he then undertook a full year of research QIMR Berghofer Medical Research in Queensland in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

After completing his ENT training in NSW, he went onto complete a Fellowship at the University of Toronto in Canada, Toronto General, Princess Margaret Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital where he was the Chief Fellow.  This Fellowship was in Head & Neck Oncology.

Since returning to Australia Dr Smith was continued a sub-speciality interest in Head and Neck Oncology. He is an active member of Head & Neck MDT at Westmead Hospital and the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. He is also a member of the Thyroid Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) at Westmead Hospital.

In addition to his sub-speciality he is also involved in the management of general ENT conditions, both paediatric and adult, along with nasal and paranasal disease.  

Dr Smith is also the current Vice President of the NSW section of ASOHNS.
