The Ramsay Way 2015 | 04 7 HOSPITALS Major expansion at Shepparton addresses mental health and rehabilitation services shortfall A huge shortfall in local mental health and rehabilitation services has prompted a more than $12 million expansion of Shepparton Private Hospital. The expansion will provide private inpatient mental health and rehabilitation services at Shepparton Private Hospital for the first time. The improvements will add 14 inpatient mental health beds, 12 rehabilitation patient rooms, a gymnasium and patient amenities to the facility. Shepparton Private Hospital Chief Executive Sheryl Keir said the new services would provide local care to the hundreds Nursing recruitment campaign Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) recently launched a new recruitment campaign to attract midwives and theatre nurses. The Real Stars of Joondalup advertising campaign draws inspiration from the popular UK television series ‘Call the Midwife’ and features episodes which showcase the benefits of working at JHC. Midwife ‘June’ and theatre nurse ‘Valerie’ are brought back from the past and placed into typical scenes in JHC’s modern facilities, amazed at the technology advances and career opportunities at JHC. The campaign runs throughout December and includes advertising on local buses, in community newspapers, shopping centres and online — including social media sites. The campaign is already paying off with numerous applications being processed by JHC’s Human Resources team and interviews are underway.  JHC recruitment campaign who needed to travel as much as four hours to access mental health and rehabilitative care. In the past year alone, more than 200 patients from the area requiring inpatient mental health care, and more than 300 requiring rehabilitation services, were referred elsewhere. "They haven't had the option (locally)," Sheryl told the local newspaper after the announcement. The new development opens the door for the possibility of further expansion if required. "The doctors tell us that we're going to be full, just like that," Sheryl said. An analysis of patient data demonstrated just how many patients are leaving the area each year seeking care. Director of Clinical Services Margot McGrath said all of the hospital's staff were very excited about the additional services. "To offer patients mental health and rehab services will save so much heartache for families," she said. The refurbishment will be finished by March next year.  Find us on Facebook facebook.com/ramsayhealth St Andrew’s named Business of the Year St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital was a big winner at the Ipswich Business Awards in November, taking out the Business of the Year category. St Andrew’s Ipswich CEO Chris Went said the result was just deserts for the hospital’s staff. Staff at St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital celebrate their win in the Business Awards. “We have a really long-term group of staff so it’s just lovely that they’re able to know that they are working hard to provide the community’s health needs,” she said. St Andrew’s Ipswich has achieved a lot in a short period of time. The hospital opened a cardiac catheter laboratory and an infusion centre last year. A seven-bed rehabilitation unit followed in August this year. The specialty services mean patients can be treated locally in Ipswich rather than having to travel to Brisbane for treatment. Chris said the hospital’s growth wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Ramsay. “It’s been really great over the last few years with all the support that Ramsay Health Care has given us,” she said. “The support has allowed us to grow and develop our facility. It’s been really good for our local community to see things actually happening for them and that we are improving their healthcare outcome.” St Andrew’s isn’t resting on its laurels, however, with further development plans afoot. “We have had a development application approved by Ipswich City Council this year and now we’re looking at further expansion. We’re pretty excited about that,” she said. “Our plan is to keep growing.” 
