MOVEMENTS&APPOINTMENTS The Ramsay Way - 2015 | 02 11 Bilateral Cochlear Implants for three year old Thomas THREE YEAR OLD THOMAS BOLLINGER WAS BORN PREMATURELY, HE HAS HAD MANY CHALLENGES WITH HIS HEALTH, WHILST HIS TWIN MICHELLE THRIVED, LIFE WAS MORE DIFFICULT FOR THOMAS. For the past three years Thomas has lived a life without sound, but this recently changed. Thomas underwent a bilateral cochlear implant, performed by A/Prof Melville Da Cruz (Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon), at Westmead Private Hospital in March. Hearing aids were not an option for Thomas and his parents learnt that cochlear implants would give their son the best chance of hearing. “Whilst Thomas communicates effectively through lip reading, it can be hard at times to understand him fully,” said his mother Kylie. “He is a happy, full-on little boy most of the time, but gets frustrated when we can’t understand him.” The prospect to experience hearing and all the joys and opportunities of the hearing world are now a reality for Thomas. With his implant being switched on 2 weeks after Thomas’ operation. MATTHEW WALL has been appointed as the Director of Clinical Services at St George Private Hospital. Matt has spent the last five years in senior management positions within Ramsay Health Care including operating theatre manager at Kareena Private Hospital from 2009-2013, Acting Director of Clinical Services at Kareena in 2014 as well as Director of Clinical Services at Westmead Private Hospital for the last 10 months. Matt graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Nursing from University of Newcastle, achieved a Graduate Certificate in Perioperative Nursing from the UTS in 2002, and successfully completed the Future Leaders Program with Ramsay Health Care in 2010. CONNIE PORTER has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Port Macquarie Private Hospital, Hastings Day Surgery and Coolenberg Day Surgery. Connie has been Director of Clinical Services (DCS) for Ramsay’s three facilities in Port Macquarie since 2012. Prior to this, Connie was Director of Clinical Services at Figtree Private Hospital in Wollongong for three years. As DCS, Connie has been heavily involved in the development of the new services at Port Macquarie Private and is in an excellent position to bring the new theatres (currently under construction) and the recently completed rehabilitation unit expansion to their full potential. Connie is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate in HR, has a Masters of Health Service Management and is an accomplished Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife. Many years ago, Connie also completed the Graduate Management Program at the Australian College of Health Service Executives, a 12-month program focused on all areas of hospital and health management. Connie commenced in the role in April. PAUL GEDDES has commenced in the role as CEO of Beleura and Peninsula Private Hospitals. With over 15 years experience in executive management, Paul has spent the past six years as Chief Executive Officer of multiple sites in Port Macquarie. During his time in Port Macquarie, Paul has demonstrated great success in growing the business, developing excellent working relationships with key stakeholders and meeting the needs of the local community. Prior to this Paul was the commercial manager for 10 years at Warringal Private Hospital. Paul commenced in the new role in April. PAUL MURFITT has been appointed Director of Clinical Services at Port Macquarie Private Hospital, Hastings Day Surgery and Coolenberg Day Surgery.  Paul commenced his career with the Royal Australian Navy as Naval Medical Sailor. On discharge in 2001, Paul had completed his Registered Nurse training and commenced employment at St George Private Hospital in the role of Nursing Unit Manager Anaesthetics / Recovery within the Operating Theatre Department. Paul then moved into senior management within the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. Returning to St George Private Hospital, he continued his role as Nursing Unit Manager Anaesthetics/Recovery. Paul moved to Port Macquarie in 2014 where he was Nurse Unit Manager, Operating Theatres at the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and worked at Port Macquarie Private Hospital on a casual basis. Paul has a Masters of Public Health/Health Service Management, Bachelor of Nursing, Diploma of Perioperative Services, Diploma of Anaesthetics and is an accomplished Registered Nurse. Paul commenced his role in June. SAMANTHA DODD has been appointed to the positon of CEO at The Avenue Private Hospital. Sam has most recently been CEO of Mitcham Private Hospital, a position that she has held since 2012. During this time, Sam has overseen two redevelopment projects to expand the operating theatres and the mental health services at Mitcham. Sam previously held the roles of Director of Clinical Services at Mitcham and Linacre Private Hospitals and, prior to this, Sam was a Nurse Unit Manager at The Avenue. Throughout her management career at Ramsay, Sam has established an excellent record in engaging staff and doctors and in maximising opportunities for business and clinical improvement. Sam commenced in her new role on 9 June and will maintain the role of CEO at Mitcham until a replacement is found. ANDREW KNIBB has been appointed to the role of Corporate Counsel to assist in the Global/Corporate Office. Andrew is a lawyer who has had experience in working at ASIC, the Corporate Group of Minter Ellison doing M&A work and has more recently been on secondment at the Takeovers Panel. JANE PICKWORTH has been appointed to the role of CEO at Albert Road Clinic. Jane comes to Ramsay with over 18 years of senior management experience in the health care sector, including nine years at Healthscope where she held a multitude of roles including General Manager at The Melbourne Clinic, Mosman Private Hospital and Geelong Clinic. With post graduate qualifications in management and psychiatric nursing, Jane’s most recent roles included National Manager at Headspace and General Manager at Arthritis and Osteoporosis Victoria. Jane commenced employment with Ramsay in April. City2Surf 2015 - Enter the Ramsay Health Care Team Registrations for the 2015, Sydney City2Surf have opened. Staff who would like to enter into the Ramsay team should contact marketing on: marketing.RHC@ramsayhealth.com.au for the password.August 9 2015 Chinese delegation visits New Farm Clinic A DELEGATION OF CEOS & HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS FROM CHINA VISITED NEW FARM CLINIC IN APRIL. Clinic CEO Ken Craig, extended a warm welcome to the visitors and with the help of an excellent interpreter gave an introductory tour of the Clinic facilities and an overview of the Clinic’s treatment regimens, day programs and in-patient group work. The visitors were very interested and enthusiastic and kept Ken and the interpreter very busy during question time.
