OUR COMMUNITY SAFETY UPDATE Ramsay Maintenance Managers The Ramsay Way 2015 | 03 19 N O R T H W E S T North West midwives volunteer time and expertise Two North West Private midwives, Emma Russell and Natasha Tutticci, spent four weeks volunteering at a Nepalese maternity hospital in Kathmandu and a village in a remote and mountainous area of Nepal. Natasha and Emma with three local nurses N O R T H S H O R E Porters paint hospital mural A beautiful wall mural was painted by North Shore Private Hospital Porter, Leo with the help of Selosi. Leo and Selosi are Theatre Porters. Leo is a trained artist, which is obvious from the quality of the work undertaken. This lovely mural is in Recovery Room 15, which is called the Family Room and a recovery room for Caesarean sections. This is a very important room as it enables parents and babies to stay together during the recovery from the Caesarean. Join the Twitter conversation twitter.com/ramsayhealth Find us on Facebook facebook.com/ramsayhealth Whilst staying with a local family in the mountainside village, they worked alongside the local medical practitioner at a “health post”, the only health facility in a district that covered a population of over 2,500 people. At the health post Emma and Natasha were able to see around 20-30 patients per day, where they assisted the local medical practitioner in treating an array of different health issues. They not only had the opportunity to see a number of pregnant women from the village for antenatal check-ups but also were able to teach the medical assistant how to use a Doppler, which had been kindly donated by one of the obstetricians at North West. This meant that the pregnant women of this village no longer had to hike 6 hours to the closest bazaar for an antenatal check-up, they could present to the village health post instead. In addition, the midwives took with them much needed medical supplies. ■ R A M S AY A U S T R A L I A LOST TIME INJURY RATE PLUMMETS 2015 has seen the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) of Ramsay Australia break record after record following its initial dip below 3 in March 2015. In the entire month of July 2015 only one LTI was incurred across the entire country despite over 3 million man-hours being worked. This amazing outcome led to the LTIFR plummeting to 2.77 for the 12 month rolling period. It also resulted in our SLTIFR (Serious LTI’s of more than one week) dropping to an average of 1.9 which is less than one fifth of the Australian Health Industry Benchmark of 9.9. These KPIs are indicators of the seriousness of injuries incurred and demonstrate our dedication to a safe workplace for all workers, patients and visitors. R A M S AY A U S T R A L I A MAINTENANCE MANAGERS CONFERENCE 2015 During July the national safety team ran in each state a conference dedicated to Ramsay maintenance managers. Attendance was high with representation from all facilities. The day was jam packed with a very full agenda. Topics varied from building infrastructure alarm systems, energy efficiency, high risk work permits and a whole lot in between including a dedicated focus on Legionella, the management of cooling towers and hot and cold water systems. The networking and making contact with other facilities was thought to be the best part of the day, by far. Ramsay understands that asset maintenance and a dedication to infrastructure is critical to our businesses and providing outstanding patient care.
