The opening of this new hospital substantially completes the development that has been underway at Joondalup Health Campus for several years. It is the latest project to be finalised as part of the $393 million redevelopment of that campus which is delivering an extensive range of new facilities for public and private patients, funded jointly by the WA State Government and Ramsay Health Care. Joondalup Private Hospital opens in March 2013 and will offer a comprehensive range of services including aged care and rehabilitation, maternity, surgery and general medicine. An adjacent medical centre will house doctors associated with the new facility. The five level Joondalup Private Hospital has 145 beds, and is expected to set new standards in hospital care in Western Australia. CEO Kempton Cowan said the new private hospital will mean residents of Perth’s northern suburbs will have an alternative to travelling 25km into the city for private hospital treatment. From here to maternity for veterans’ hospital Greenslopes Private Hospital delivers Mia into the world - the first baby born at the hospital following the opening of its brand new maternity unit See pg3 for photos of the new maternity unit… Greenslopes Private Hospital has delivered its first baby following the opening of a brand new maternity ward in February 2013. The event is significant given the hospital’s history as a military and repatriation hospital caring for veterans for the past 71 years. The commencement of maternity services at the hospital starts a new chapter in its history. The 26 bed maternity ward is the first new maternity service to open in Brisbane in over a decade. The opening of the maternity and neonatal service was just one part of a $47 million development which also included a new accommodation wing with two 32 bed surgical wards, six additional coronary care beds and 10 cot special care nursery. The new tower boasts all private single rooms with ensuite. Four new operating theatres and other facilities also formed part of this major development. It makes Greenslopes, with 676 beds, the largest private hospital in the nation and, with the introduction of obstetrics, all major adult specialties are now available on the one campus. Hospital CEO Mark Page said this new development would firmly entrench Greenslopes Private Hospital as the largest and most comprehensive private teaching hospital in the country. “We’re still honoured to treat war veterans and widows – they are part of our fabric and our history and it is a privilege to continue to treat them. Having babies now born at Greenslopes Private adds a new and very special dimension to what already was a wonderful hospital,” Mark said. The Hospital delivered its first baby, Mia, on 26 February.
