The new $4.2 million development incorporates 24 private accommodation rooms; expanded group rooms and dining facilities. It was officially opened by Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry MP and Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex. Hospital CEO Tracy Wust said the newly expanded unit was a major boost for mental health services in the region. “This is a very exciting development for Rockhampton and the whole Central Queensland area. Private mental health services are poorly lacking in this region and sufferers of mental health disorders will benefit greatly from this new facility,” Ms Wust said. “We are the only mental health unit between the Sunshine Coast and Cairns. There is significant demand for private psychiatric services in the Central Queensland region and our unit is already almost full since opening late last year.” Patients will also have access to day programs from the new facility for the treatment of a range of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety disorders. Day programs commenced in the Unit on 15 January, 2015. Five consultant psychiatrists are currently working from the facility and care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team including psychiatrists, specialist nursing staff, psychologists and other allied health professionals. Ramsay Managing Director Chris Rex said mental illness was an increasing problem for all communities across Australia with a vast number of Australians experiencing some form of mental illness each year. “Ramsay Health Care’s business started in mental health care.
