Miss Muddy is a women’s only obstacle and mud festival with a course of up to 5km for participants of 16 years and over. It includes mud, colour, climbing, crawling, slipping, sliding and lots and lots of laughter. The event raised money for women’s charities including Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the Breast Cancer Network Australia and the McGrath Foundation. Nowra Pirates come second Nowra Private Pirate Hospital recently competed in the 2014 River Festival Dragonboat Regatta on the Shoalhaven River and after just one training session managed a second place in the community section. The Nowra team beat the navy team and the med students amongst others. Money raised from the festival went to The Shoalhaven Education Fund. Westmead Pirates paddle for breast cancer In October, the Westmead Private Pirates took to the water to support Dragons Abreast Australia. Their aim is to encourage wellness, fitness, fun and camaraderie for breast cancer survivors through dragon boating and promote breast cancer awareness throughout our community. The team did Westmead Private proud and although not winners on the day, paddled their hearts out. The Ramsay Way - 2014 | 04 15 FUN&FITNESS Hundreds of women braved an early Sunday morning hurdle of inflatable obstacles, mud pits, powdered colour and foam all in the name of a good cause. Leading the pack was an all-female team representing Southern Highlands Private at the first Miss Muddy obstacle course in Canberra. With matching handmade uniforms representatives from most departments- clinical and non- clinical areas, joined forces to compete as a team. Ramsay Santé competes in La Parisienne In its 18th year, the famous French fun run – La Parisienne – saw 35,000 women from 621 companies run the 6.7km race. This year, for the first time, Ramsay Sante formed its first female team in the race with 96 participants. The team finished 166th. Donvale takes aim at the Corporate Games Donvale delivered enthusiasm, skill and teamwork at the Melbourne Corporate Games in November. With a mixed touch rugby, women’s basketball and women’s netball team participating for Donvale, the teams proudly displayed their Ramsay sports shirts as they played multiple games against our corporate competitors, ending with a 3rd for basketball, and a 4th for Touch. Hospital CEO Jenny Haig said it was wonderful to watch the good humour, teamwork and energy displayed by all competing Donvale staff. “Everyone had a wonderful time, and we are looking forward to the next games.” 50% discount for RHC TriPink Ramsay Health Care staff are offered a 50% discount by Triathlon Pink as the event celebrates its 9th anniversary. Nowra Private Hospital gets behind the inaugural curebraincancer Cronulla walk held in November to raise awareness for brain cancer. Brain cancer kills more children in Australia than any other disease and more adults under 40 yrs than any other cancer. Nowra’s Day Surgery Manager’s husband (Pete) was diagnosed in 2013 with brain cancer. Nowra Private showed their support by participating in the ‘Walk for Pete”, at Cronulla, raising over $9000 - the highest amount of any team. Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink Update About 900 people participated in the Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink at the Sunshine Coast in November. Ultra competitors faced a 600m swim, 18km ride and 6km run while those entering their first triathlon swam 100m, rode three kilometres and ran one kilometre. Shorter distances were on offer for the enthusiastic children, with age categories from seven through to 16 years. Since the first event in Sydney in 2006, Pinkies have raised more than $1.4 million for breast cancer charities. With the Perth and Sunshine Coast Ramsay Health CareTriathlon Pinks over for another year, the series takes a short break over the festive season before starting up again in January 2015 with the last three events.
