The Ramsay Way 2016 | 02 3 Ramsay MD Speaks at ICHOM Conference in London Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex addressed the recent International Consortium for Healthcare Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) Conference in London attended by 850 delegates from 36 countries around the globe. Held at the University College London, the ICHOM conference showcased the latest standard sets developed by ICHOM’s committees and highlighted the key milestones and involvement of companies like Ramsay Health Care, on the journey towards outcomes measurement and value-based health care. “The future success of our business will be driven by what matters most to patients. Patient outcomes measurement and reporting will allows us to prove that the care we are providing is high quality; cost effective and, most importantly, meeting the patient’s needs,” Chris told the audience. “As a global organisation we believe that the international benchmarking possibilities offered by ICHOM will be part of the future of healthcare. We are very keen to progress a leadership position in the treatment of illnesses that affect the population. Partnering with ICHOM and commencing global benchmarking will give us that opportunity.” He said one of the most important factors for Ramsay is that any outcomes measurement program is clinician led and has their full support. “Empowering our clinicians and engaging with them will deliver the best outcomes.” Malcolm Passmore, Ramsay’s National ICHOM Steering Committee Chair and Regional NSW Operations Executive also spoke at the ICHOM conference about Ramsay’s implementation of ICHOM standard sets. The group is currently participating in several standard sets developed by ICHOM including depression and anxiety; low back pain; cataract surgery and coronary artery disease.  Ramsay has already been providing services to New Caledonian patients for many years, transporting and treating hundreds of patients who need life-saving heart surgeries that they do not have access to in their own country. Strathfield will continue cardiac services, Westmead Private neurosurgery and Mt Wilga rehabilitation. Ramsay’s New Caledonian medivac services will now also formally extend to St George Private Hospital for digestive surgery, gastroenterology and urology, and North Shore Private Hospital for other medical services. Documentary film maker Oliver Gresse, from the French National Broadcaster NC 1ER, which recently filmed a documentary on the CAFAT project, said he was “impressed” with how Australian hospitals have adapted so well to patients’ often very urgent medical needs. “The hospitals have adapted their systems to make all these patients and their families feel secure, despite coming to an unknown country and despite the language and the cultural barriers. These patients are lucky to have access to such high calibre medical services,” he said. Ramsay Health Care Australia CEO Danny Sims said the contract would create “new opportunities between the two countries,” and that the patient experience would include the provision of on-site interpreters, access to French television channels, French menus and books and meals provided in French. The CAFAT arrangement will also be strengthened with regards to coronary angiographies, as practitioners from the Gaston Bourret Hospital (CHT) will be exchanged with specialists from Strathfield and also via formalisation of sectors such as post neurosurgical and rehabilitation between Mt Wilga and Koutio rehabilitation centre.  Above: Ramsay National ICHOM Steering Committee Chair Malcolm Passmore on a panel at the ICHOM Conference.
