DEVELOPMENTS North Shore Private Deputy CEO Richard Ryan said management was committed to giving all patients a truly private, patient-centred hospital experience and the development was on track to deliver all private rooms by the end of the year. Renovations to the 311-bed hospital also include a new operating theatre to open in June, along with a new conference room for staff, GP and specialist education sessions. Included in the 39 new beds will be 8 maternity parenting suites, providing a double bed for partners, so families can have private “bonding time” with their newborn when they need it most. These rooms will be offered as a package including meals for partners, gourmet food hamper, champagne and Dermalogica gift set. 4 The Ramsay Way 2016 | 01 Giant aquarium for kids at Joondalup Health Campus Construction of a new paediatric ward at Joondalup Health Campus in Western Australia is on track and expected to open mid-year with a giant tropical aquarium crane-lifted onto the ward recently. Health Minister Kim Hames visited the site to view a sample room within the construction site and watch the installation of the 3.5 metre-long by 1.5 metre-high aquarium on February 23. "The major expansion of the paediatric ward at Joondalup will expand the previous 24-bed facility into a modern and spacious 37-bed purpose-built area to accommodate growing demand," Dr Hames said. "This giant fish tank will be located at the heart of the facility to entertain and delight unwell children and their siblings." Joondalup Health Campus CEO Kempton Cowan said the 37-bed Telethon Children’s Ward, which is costing close to $15 million, is rapidly taking shape. “Our vision for a modern, spacious, purpose-built area that suits the needs of children is coming to life with the installation of a fantastic aquarium supplied by a local northern suburbs company,” he said. The tank will be filled with variety of fresh water tropical fish by the end of April. Mr Cowan said this would be one of many features designed to make the hospital experience a kinder one for kids. “Being in hospital can be overwhelming for children so we are designing the ward to ensure our sick kids are both entertained and distracted during their stay,” he said. Other special features planned for the ward include: • 3D interactive technology for children undergoing painful procedures • Recreation room with interactive play floors • Rooftop play area The new ward is being funded by a combination of state government funding ($5.7 million), a Telethon grant ($6 million) and a contribution from Ramsay Health Care ($3 million).
