The Ramsay Way - Summer 2014

2 The Ramsay Way - 2014 | 04 Global Structure announced for Ramsay Health Care CEO’s report 2014 has been a significant year for Ramsay Health Care. In this 50th anniversary year, we became the leading operator of hospitals in France; we launched into the top five private hospital operators in the world and we welcomed in a new Chairman, Michael Siddle, after mourning the sad and sudden passing of our founder and former Chairman Paul Ramsay AO. This year the Paul Ramsay Foundation became our largest shareholder and it is pleasing that it is the intention of the Foundation to remain a significant long term shareholder of Ramsay Health Care and that the directors of the Foundation are aligned with Ramsay Health Care. More recently, we have signed a provisional agreement with an operator of five hospitals in the city of Chengdu China and look forward to finalising this agreement in the near future. As the Company grows it is only logical that we need to adapt to our new size. To this end we have recently announced a new management structure which is designed to ensure that the organisation can be responsive to the needs of a large global company in the future. The area of greatest change is to effectively de-couple Australian management from global/corporate management. This will mean that our Australian operations are managed in the same way as those in France, UK and Asia under the direction of a countrybased CEO and will thereby be enhanced from having a dedicated team in charge of the day-to-day operations. Danny Sims has been appointed CEO of Ramsay Australia and will lead a new Ramsay Australian team, the structure and make-up of which, he has recently announced. I would like to congratulate Danny on this appointment and of course, I will continue to support him in his expanded role The global team includes: • Craig McNally becomes Chief Operating Officer and will be responsible for global business development and strategy and also operations in Asia and the UK. • Bruce Soden will continue as Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for the Company. A new position of Australian Chief Financial Officer has been created to manage the financial aspects of the Australian business. • Paul Fitzmaurice will become Chief Commercial Officer responsible for leveraging global commercial opportunities including procurement, product sourcing and business improvement. He will retain responsibility for Ramsay Pharmacy in Australia. • Carmel Monaghan will become Chief of Staff responsible for planning and directing administrative, operational and strategic activities for the Office of the CEO. Carmel will retain responsibility for global marketing, public affairs and communications. . • Gavin O’Meara will be Head of People and Culture responsible for strategic global workforce initiatives and workforce special projects including the completion of the time and attendance system in Australia. • In addition to Danny, Pascal Roché, CEO of our operations in France, will report directly to me. A new location for the global office will be established from early next year in Sydney. In the meantime, and whilst the above moves create vacancies in the Australian structure, interim arrangements will exist whereby global team members will continue to fulfil Australian roles until they are replaced. These are very exciting times for Ramsay Health Care as we expand and grow our business and it is important that we continue to grow our management team to meet these new challenges. It is also very important to me that through these changes we retain our focus on The Ramsay Way and our most important asset – our people. I believe the changes will add to the career prospects and professional aspirations for staff throughout the organization and I look forward to welcoming the appointments into the positions created by the global structural changes. Finally I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe and festive holiday season. RAMSAY HEALTH CARE HAS ANNOUNCED A NEW ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE THAT WILL COME INTO EFFECT FROM 1 JANUARY 2015. In a statement to management and staff on 1 December, Managing Director Chris Rex said the new structure reflected the significant growth in Ramsay’s overseas business in recent times and “is designed to ensure that the organisation can be responsive to the needs of a large global company in the future”. The area of greatest change is to effectively de-couple Australian management from global/corporate management meaning that Ramsay’s Australian operations are managed in the same way as those in France, UK and Asia under the direction of a country -based CEO. Chris said the Australian operations would be enhanced from having a dedicated team in charge of the day-to-day operations. Danny Sims has been appointed CEO of Ramsay Australia and will lead a new Ramsay Australian team. Following a two year construction period, & now 12 months providing the community with first class health care services, the new private hospital is making its mark on the Sunshine Coast. In its first year, SCUPH admitted more than 15,000 patients and performed 12,000 procedures. The Hospital also provides a range of services to public patients and during the first 12 months approximately 9000 public patients were treated at SCUPH. Hospital CEO Oli Steele said that the first anniversary was a significant occasion for the hospital community. “Our extraordinary team of staff and doctors has put in a tremendous effort in our first 12 months,” Oli said. “SCUPH is now treating a wide range of medical and surgical patients, many of whom would previously have needed to travel to Brisbane for treatment. We are seeing patients from areas as far north as Bundaberg in addition to our Sunshine Coast patients.” “Major achievements in our first year include the introduction of interventional cardiology services; the opening of the first dedicated private cardiology ward on the Sunshine Coast; successfully undertaking our ISO surveillance audit, and the establishment of many new specialist practices.” In its first comprehensive patient survey, SCUPH has also received an excellent endorsement from patients with 88.8% of patients satisfied with their experience at the hospital. The survey showed that 55.8% of patients rated the hospital as very good and 33% as good (see story page 7). With more than 600 staff now employed at SCUPH, the new hospital has provided a significant economic boost to the Sunshine Coast and was the first Ramsay facility to feature the innovative Video Nurse Call system. With his sad passing earlier this year, we will miss these messages from him and the warmth and wishes he bestowed on everyone at Christmas. But I know he would have wanted me to extend his gratitude to all of you – all Ramsay staff and your families everywhere – for your dedication and commitment to Ramsay Health Care; for looking after our patients; and for caring for each other. And so, in the words of Paul: Happy, Happy, Happy Christmas! And a very Happy 50th Birthday to Ramsay Health Care as well. Michael Siddle Chairman, Ramsay Health Care
