The commissioning of another birthing suite has been prompted by an increase in demand for Westmead Private’s leading obstetric and maternity services, and comes just two years after a $25 million upgrade gave the ward a luxurious, hotel-style ambiance.

Dr Tien Huynh, head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and representative member of Westmead Private Medical Advisory Committee, said it was an exciting development.

“Our patient numbers are really growing and I think the revamp has definitely given women the type of maternity services they are after. It’s very beautiful, with single rooms, separate parenting rooms and there’s a lovely rooftop section where new parents can meet with their families,” Dr Huynh said.

“What really makes it so special though is the people. We have an amazing group of very experienced midwives who make a very special connection with women and it goes from the labour ward right through to post-natal care. Actually it’s really the whole Westmead Private Hospital,” she said.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Flatley said it was encouraging to see more women choosing to have their babies at Westmead Private Hospital at a time when other private providers were recording a decline in numbers.

“We really wanted to give new mums that luxurious, hotel-style feel of accommodation when they have their babies with us. We’ve been talking with our community and engaging with our mums to make sure we’re offering them exactly what they’re after, so to now be able to expand to an eighth birthing suite is very exciting,” Mr Flatley said.

Westmead Private Hospital has one of Sydney’s largest private maternity units. It features 46 private rooms with ensuite, a 14 cot Special Care Nursery, 8 spacious Parenting Suites, Women’s only Infant Feeding Support Centre, Education Centre, Bathing Centre plus a rooftop garden for families to enjoy.
