Ramsay Health Care’s Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital and Nambour Selangor Private Hospital are proud to be home to Australia’s first Indigenous orthopod, Dr Anthony Murray, a hip and knee specialist.
A proud Aboriginal Dharug man, Dr Murray was the first Indigenous person to become an orthopaedic surgeon when he graduated from surgical training in 2021.
Dr Murray is passionate about ensuring health care is accessible to all Australians.
He sits on the Australian Orthopaedic Association Cultural Inclusion Working Group that aims to identify and work towards removing barriers to the provision of equitable health care. Dr Murray is also on the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Indigenous Health Committee that addresses barriers to Indigenous health care across Australia.
Dr Murray is happy to call the Sunshine Coast home, consulting his Town and Country Orthopaedics practice rooms at The Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital and Nambour Selangor Private Hospital.
“My wife’s family lives on the Sunshine Coast and being Queenslanders, our plan was always to live here. We wanted to be more connected to our family, but also wanted a place to call home – where we could have a balanced lifestyle and where I could really get to know the community I work in,” Dr Murray said.
