Ramsay Hospital Research Foundation’s Impact Report details record activity

September 30, 2022

The Ramsay Hospital Research Foundation (RHRF) has released its Impact report for 2020 and 2021, detailing the organisation’s most active period to date, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

RHRF CEO Nicola Ware said 14 grants were awarded in 2020 and 2021, with funding totalling $6,259,327.

“The Ramsay Hospital Research Foundation funds high-quality and innovative research that aims to improve patient outcomes and the delivery of healthcare in Australia,” Ms Ware said.

“I’m proud to announce the 2020-2021 calendar years were our most active years to date. We currently have 21 projects underway, with 14 of these established in 2020-2021.

“We have also seen the continued development of the Ramsay Clinical Trials Network with more than 300 trials established and more than 700 patients enrolled in the various trials within the network.

“The activity completed in recent years is even more impressive when you consider the impacts of COVID-19, with limited access to patients and to hospitals during these turbulent times.

“The challenges of COVID-19 are ongoing, but we acknowledge the dedication of the research teams and their ability to be agile and pivot the projects where possible to ensure they have continued.”

Grants awarded in 2020 and 2021 supported various specialities including mothers, babies, and children, frailty, orthopaedics, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, cancer, mental health, cardiovascular and COVID-19.

RHRF has supported 34 projects since its inception in 2017.

Ms Ware said RHRF is supported by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, a relationship which will now continue until at least 2026.

“We continue to enjoy working with the Paul Ramsay Foundation and supporting their mission to break the cycles of disadvantage,” she said.

“We were pleased to be able to renew our funding agreement with them for a further five years, with a new cycle of funding commencing in June 2021.

The RHRF will focus on four clinical areas over the next five years: cancer, mental health, cardiovascular disease and orthopaedic surgery/musculoskeletal injury.

“I look forward to seeing how research conducted by our clinicians, allied health and nursing staff can help to shape the future of health care in Australia and how we can continue contributing to improving the lives of patients.”

The 2021-2021 RHRF Impact report can be viewed online now.
