Ramsay Pharmacy launches new Tunstall Square store with help from snowboarding pharmacist

August 31, 2019

The grand opening of Ramsay’s new Tunstall Square pharmacy in Melbourne offered live entertainment, activities and incentives which drew in local residents to experience the store first-hand.

The launch on Saturday 8 June included 20 per cent off storewide on the day, a chance for the first 100 people to book complimentary flu shots, and great prizes including a Byron Bay health retreat.

Doncaster local Ivy Sun, who is a passionate pharmacist and snowboarder, also took up residence to give tips and advice to the community.

Ivy, who moved to Australia from China as an international student, became a pharmacist about four years ago. During this time she said the biggest change in the industry was when pharmacists were given more responsibility to support the needs of communities.

“One of the biggest shifts was when pharmacists were given authority to administer vaccinations in 2017, and in 12 months I think I gave more than 1,200 flu and whooping cough vaccinations. This made getting vaccinations more convenient for the community, meaning more people were safe-guarded from illnesses,” Ivy said.

Ivy began working for Ramsay at the Tunstall Square’s temporary store in December and has already felt she has built strong community connections.

“The Doncaster community is lovely and we’ve had some beautiful customers. I was amazed to receive so many Christmas gifts in December! It shows that as a pharmacist, we can really connect with our customers and that is what Ramsay aims to do with this new store,” she said.

Ivy, who believes in helping customers in a holistic way, such as recommending supplements along with medications, says she herself enjoys living a healthy and active lifestyle, with a main passion snowboarding, with favourite areas Mt Buller and Falls Creek.

Passionate about helping the community, Ivy continues to up-skill across multiple study areas, including diabetes and chronic pain management.

Ivy will be instrumental in delivering Ramsay’s unique PainWISE program, which supports the one in five Australians who usually visit their doctors to address their chronic pain.

Along with PainWISE, the pharmacy will provide support learning programs and support in medication management, blood glucose testing and diabetes and post discharge support.
