FUN AND FITNESS The Power of Pink — Triathlon Pink! Through its operations, policies and practices, Ramsay Health Care makes a genuine attempt to improve the quality of life of its employees, their families, the local communities in which the hospitals and clinics operate and society at large. One of the most successful examples of this operational strategy in action is the Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink. 20 The Ramsay Way 2015 | 04 The series is held around Australia each year in locations including Gold Coast, Sydney, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Melbourne and Brisbane. It’s a fun, introductory, all-female, community event that features a pool swim and distances to accommodate everyone in a safe triathlon environment. Since its inception in 2006 the series has introduced over 25,000 women to the wonderful sport of triathlon and raised over $1.6 million for its nominated charity, the National Breast Cancer Foundation. People of all ages participate decked out in pink, including children as young as five taking part in the Fun Run Pink events and men (often supporting their beloved wives and partners) in the 5km fun run as part of the multi-sport event. Many of the women who participate have overcome huge obstacles to undertake the event. Others ride in honour of loved ones they have lost to breast cancer. At the recent Sunshine Coast event, Chloe Aurisch one of our Allied Health team physios from the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital drew on her ultra-fit capabilities to finish second in the all ages ultra-group. The Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink is a wonderful example of the vital role that good organisations can play in facilitating, running and participating in wellness events and the flow on fundraising effects of this which allows for significant resources and investment back into medical research; clinical teaching and training and ultimately, to the local communities we serve. 0322RHC
