CEO REPORT I am very pleased to announce Ramsay Health Care’s Strategic Alliance with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM). We are the first multinational hospital group to partner with the US-based organisation which is focused on discovering what matters most to patients. ICHOM is a non-profit organization founded by Professor Michael E. Porter of Harvard Business School, the Swedish Karolinska Institutet, and Boston Consulting Group, to enable health care systems worldwide to measure and report patient outcomes in a standardized way. This alliance with ICHOM represents our longterm commitment to driving value in health care in our hospitals around the world. Outcomes that matter most to our patients are the ultimate measure of success in health care. When seeking treatment, patients want to know how they will fare after treatment – whether they can return to work; take care of themselves and will their symptoms improve? Outcomes measurement is not about technical outputs, but focuses on key results that matter most to patients and deliver value. At Ramsay Health Care we are committed to delivering superior quality care throughout our hospitals for every patient, every day. Continuous measurement of what we deliver for patients will provide a key input into innovation and quality improvement. I am pleased that our doctors have welcomed this new measurement approach and will work together with us to measure and then benchmark patient-focused outcomes. Ramsay’s first areas of focus with ICHOM will be prostate cancer at Greenslopes and Hollywood Private Hospitals, low back pain at North Shore Private Hospital, and depression and anxiety at one of our key mental health facilities. In France, Ramsay Générale de Santé is also undertaking the prostate cancer trial with ICHOM. Since its founding in 2012, ICHOM has developed 12 Standard Sets. In the next year, Ramsay Health Care has agreed to work with ICHOM to facilitate the development of the breast cancer standard set and we look forward to the development of this set. Construction on the new ward started in March 2015, and will see it transform from a 24-bed ward into a light and airy 37-bed purpose built facility. The new ward will include: • 19 single bed rooms • 2 double rooms for children requiring observation • 1 triple bed room for children requiring observation • 1 single bed isolation room to assist with controlling infectious diseases • 10 bed Day Procedure Unit (DPU) • overnight facilities for parents • activity areas for children The ward will be family-friendly with play areas for children and overnight facilities for parents. There will also be a recreation room with a giant aquarium, touch-reactive play floors and a rooftop play area. The improved and expanded ward will mean JHC can treat significantly more children, with more complex health needs, and in a more comfortable environment.
