AT TA D A L E Attadale to open private rehabilitation hospital In response to shifting demographics and healthcare needs of the local area, Attadale Private Hospital in Perth closed its maternity and surgical services earlier this year and is in the process of changing its focus to rehabilitation. 4 The Ramsay Way 2015 | 03 K I N G S WAY D AY S U R G E R Y Shire urologist makes history Urologist Paul Cozzie made medical history recently becoming the first surgeon in the world to perform 200 UroLift procedures. UroLift is a permanent implant used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). It is alternative to tissue-removing surgery and/or drugs. An enlarged prostate puts pressure on the base of the bladder and can have a major impact on quality of life. It is the most common form of prostate disease and is more common in older men. The 200th surgery was performed in June at Ramsay’s Kingsway Day Surgery in Miranda. Attadale physician Dr Jake Harper welcomed the news, saying it was a fantastic opportunity for local people to experience high quality rehabilitation close to home. “We are excited with the opportunity to help satisfy a major unmet need for postoperative care,” Dr Harper said. “Families are constantly asking us for more rehabilitation beds close to where they live.” Attadale CEO Jane Case is also looking forward to providing a much needed service in the south metropolitan area. At a morning tea to celebrate the opening of the rehabilitation hospital in August, Jane spoke about new beginnings for Attadale. “Today we are thrilled to be opening our doors to this new chapter. The conversion of the hospital into a private rehabilitation facility, the only one of its kind south of the river, will be a major benefit to the local community.” ■ The newly refurbished seven-bed rehabilitation unit has a dedicated gym area with state-of-the-art equipment, treatment and exercise programs. The launch of the unit will align with St Andrew’s Ipswich continued commitment to provide quality, locally based services to the people of the Ipswich and West Moreton Region St Andrew’s CEO, Chris Went, said she was proud expand the suite of clinical and medical services within the hospital; eliminating the need for patients to travel for like services. “The addition of a comprehensive rehabilitation unit at St Andrew’s Ipswich has reinforced Ramsay Health’s support for developing services in areas of unmet need,” said Chris. “We are very excited to be able to expand the continuum of care for our orthopaedic patients; promoting recovery close to home, without the need to transfer to Brisbane.” Chris noted that the team of experienced rehabilitation doctors, nurses and allied health professionals had been handpicked to ensure patients receive the very best of care, close to home. The unit opened in late August and will provide a welcomed choice for patients seeking quality, comfortable care, close to family and friends. The unit is supported by Dr Juan Rois Gneccoo, Specialist Rehabilitation Medicine Physician and a team of experienced rehabilitation nurses and allied health professionals. ■
