Ramsay Health Care raises $60,000 for the Philippines RAMSAY HEALTH CARE HAS RAISED $60,000 IN RELIEF FUNDING FOR THE PHILIPPINES. THE MONEY HAS BEEN DONATED TO SHELTERBOX, AN INTERNATIONAL DISASTER RELIEF CHARITY THAT DELIVERS EMERGENCY SHELTER, WARMTH & DIGNITY TO PEOPLE AFFECTED BY DISASTER. Shelterbox General Manager, Mike Greenslade said the donation from Ramsay was very welcome and would be used to supply essential equipment such as tents, water purification equipment and teaching resources to affected areas. “ShelterBox is committed to help over 6,000 families and is working closely with partner agencies, Plan International and Handicap International, to identify the most vulnerable,” Mike said. “We are being assisted by HMAS Tobruk to get aid to some of the hardto reach islands and have a further 600 boxes flying out of Melbourne this week via another of our partners - DHL.” “The fantastic sum raised by Ramsay and its employees will enable us to help even more families in need.” Ramsay employees raised $30,000 at events held in Ramsay hospitals and offices throughout the country and the Company matched this funding raised by staff with its own $30,000 donation. Ramsay Managing Director, Chris Rex said the best way the Company could assist was to donate money to the relief effort. “It is really pleasing that everyone in Ramsay got behind the fundraising initiatives that were held throughout the company over the past few weeks,” he said. “Many families of Ramsay employees had been affected by Haiyan and our condolences go out to those who have lost relatives and loved ones in this terrible disaster.” The Ramsay Way - 2013 | 04 3 HAIYAN SLAMMED INTO the southern Philippines in early November with wind speeds of 315 kph (the fourth most powerful cyclone ever observed and the strongest on record to make landfall) and left a trail of destruction in many provinces. The official death toll as this edition of The Ramsay Way goes to print, stands at over 6000, with 1800 still missing and hundreds of thousands forced to find shelter in evacuation centres. Shelterbox has response teams on the ground across five different islands in the Philippines, assisting some of the many millions people who have been affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
