First patients admitted to DEVELOPMENTS Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital RAMSAY’S BRAND NEW SUNSHINE COAST UNIVERSITY PRIVATE HOSPITAL OPENED ON 4 NOVEMBER 2013 FOLLOWING A TWO YEAR DEVELOPMENT & CONSTRUCTION PERIOD. THE $150 MILLION HOSPITAL OPENED ONE MONTH EARLIER THAN ANTICIPATED, WITH SIX STATE-OF-THE-ART THEATRES, A DAY CHEMOTHERAPY UNIT, A CARDIAC CATHETER LABORATORY & COMPREHENSIVE PATHOLOGY, RADIOLOGY & PHARMACY SERVICES ALL LOCATED ONSITE. The first operation at the hospital was undertaken by well-known Sunshine Coast general surgeon Dr John Hansen. “This is a wonderful new hospital for Sunshine Coast residents and I am very much looking forward to operating from this facility,” Dr Hansen said. “This new hospital is really going to transform healthcare in the region. It provides improved choice for Sunshine Coast residents and has attracted some excellent new specialists and clinical staff to the area.” The hospital will not only bring much needed health services to one of the fastest growing regions of Australia but is also already delivering great benefits to the local economy, bringing jobs to the region. Many new staff will commence in the hospital for the first time today across a range of positions including catering, administration, nursing and allied health. The 200 bed hospital has been designed with patient comfort in mind – all rooms are single with ensuites. Ramsay Queensland State Manager Lloyd Hill said the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital would provide improved services for the Sunshine Coast and would reduce the need for patients to travel to Brisbane for treatment. “We are delighted to be opening this hospital – Ramsay’s first new built hospital since it opened North Shore Private Hospital in Sydney in 1997,” Mr Hill said. “In addition to the latest medical technology, patients are going to enjoy some of the other technology particularly geared to them. The hospital is fully wifi enabled and each bed comes with its own video nurse call so patients don’t have to wait for a nurse to visit their room but can speak to a nurse or assistant at the ward desk from their bedside.” Artists impression of the new development. Kareena Private Hospital will be transformed in the coming months with additional services, specialties and rooms added to the already quality health care facility. The development will see Kareena Private Hospital increase to a modern 139 bed facility. Developments will see the inclusion of an additional Operating Theatre, private rooms and parenting suites for our maternity patients, new onsite medical consulting suites, a new 36 bed ward and a new 9 bed intensive care unit. Kareena Private Hospital is excited to include new specialities to an already impressive portfolio including Neuro Spinal Surgery, Ophthalmic Surgery and Bariatric Surgery. Also included in the developments are expansions for both the Pharmacy and Stores Departments, and relocation of the Medical Records Department. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2014. This stage of the development will see the hospital grow significantly and will ensure Kareena Private has the facilities and comforts to serve our community well into the future.” WORK HAS ALMOST FINISHED ON A NEW CARDIAC CATHETER LABORATORY AT ST ANDREW’S IPSWICH PRIVATE HOSPITAL. “This is a really important advance for the region - allowing cardiac patients the option of having their angiograms in Ipswich,” said hospital CEO Chris Went. “It is also a further demonstration of the commitment we have to ensuring our community has access to services locally.” The new Cardiac Catheter Laboratory follows on from other new services developed at the hospital this year including a day chemotherapy centre, and an on-site respiratory function testing laboratory. “The hospital continues to grow to meet the needs of the Ipswich and West Moreton region with further capacity and expansion predicted over the coming years,” said Chris. Chris Junge the new Cardiac Catheter Laboratory Nurse Unit Manager is looking forward to building the new service and working alongside our existing and new cardiologists to grow a comprehensive cardiac service at our hospital to complement the range of services now on offer. “It is wonderful to be part of the great team at St. Andrews Ipswich and to play a part in bringing cardiology to the region,” Mr Junge said. The Cardiac Catheter laboratory is set for completion in December with an official opening scheduled for early in the New Year. DOCTORS AT GOLD COAST’S PINDARA PRIVATE HOSPITAL HAVE BECOME A YOUTUBE SENSATION WITH OVER 108,000 HAVING WATCHED THEIR VIDEO AS THIS EDITION OF THE RAMSAY WAY GOES TO PRINT. The doctors revealed their hidden talents and sense of humour by making their own video clip to the best-selling song from Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera Moves Like Jagger. A plastic surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, emergency room physician, respiratory specialist, obstetrician and oncologist put their dance moves to the test for the spoof video, which premiered at their staff Christmas party. In the clip, the doctors wear torn scrubs as they emulated the distinctive strutting of Rolling Stones’ lead singer Mick Jagger, dancing through the hospital’s corridors and surgical theatres. Hospital CEO Trish Hogan who plays the part of pop princess Aguilera, said the group took dance lessons in the lead up to the shoot. “We were quite terrible to begin with,” she said. She said staff and members of the public had been very supportive of the video. “The response has been amazing. In fact, one patient was about to go into surgery recently and turned to our director of clinical surgery and said, ‘I hope you’ve got the moves like Jagger in there.” “It was a celebration of the end of the year. We can’t be serious all the time.
