RAMSAYUK L-R: Mr Neil Orpen, Consultant Spinal Surgeon; Claire Gurrie The BIH Interim General Manager, Dr Jeremy McNally Consultant Rheumatologist, Dr Paddy Clarke Pain Management Consultant. 10 The Ramsay Way - 2014 | 04 NATIONALSAFETY Joondalup reaches company first & lowest LTI ever Joondalup Health Campus has reached seven months in a row with zero lost time injuries – a first for a hospital, jurisdiction and the Company as a whole according to National Safety Manager Chanelle McEnallay. “Achieving a period of zero LTIs is no mean feat. This is an outstanding result and particularly given that they are Ramsay’s largest and most complex facility,” Chanelle said. She attributes their results to renewed dedication to the RHC Injury Management System and 24 hour a day manning of the “injury hotline”. She especially acknowledges site WHS Manager Steve Nation who manned the hotline out of business hours for seven months and Sarah Robinson the site Injury Management Coordinator who runs the day-to-day campaign. “Incurring lost time when injured is an indicator of how serious an injury is. If injured workers do not need to lose full shifts or more, it generally indicates an injury is less serious than one requiring time off or away from work. “In June 2014 we set a record breaking LTIFR of 4.00 the lowest ever in the company, we then improved on that performance throughout July and for the first time achieved an LTIFR below 4 for the rolling 12 month period – 3.96. We further improved this rate setting a new low of 3.51 in October 2014. Focus on Fitness at The Avenue The Avenue Hospital’s innovative OH&S Manager, Helen Raik, set the theme for the 2014 Safety Week as Focus on Fitness. With an emphasis on ‘healthy mind healthy body’ staff members with skills, contacts and interests in health and wellbeing offered a diverse program to all employees. The Avenue CEO Amanda Fieldhouse; DCS Marian Burns; and Helen Raik led the charge for boot camp sessions bright and early at 5:30 am with a spirited group of participants. Focusing on safety and fitness, employee by day and martial arts enthusiast after hours, Tome Kokarevski (on far left) stepped his groups through educational boxing sessions ably assisted by Peter Dimantakis (second from left). A less physical option was the Crime Prevention Talk provided by the local police department. To keep motivation high throughout the week, The Avenue Hospital’s fabulous catering team provided healthy snacks for all participants at the end of each session; and for those with a few aches and pains yoga and massage eased away the tension.
