PEOPLE&CULTURE Ella Lowe Nursing Research Award Winner THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR’S ELLA LOWE RESEARCH GRANT IS VERITY MAK, CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR AT MITCHAM PRIVATE HOSPITAL. Verity’s project is the development of an Educational Program relating to the Deteriorating Patient NSQHS Standard 9. It presents a significant opportunity for Ramsay to improve education in an area that will positively impact on clinical outcomes. Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients! Each year Ramsay Health Care offers scholarships to employees working in our Australian facilities through the Post Graduate Scholarship Program. This program has been set up to support and reduce the financial burden of postgraduate study in areas where additional postgraduate qualifications are considered an important and valuable requirement for career advancement. The award recognises professionalism, values, team work and communication, safe practice and critical thinking, documentation skills, commitment to learning and upholding the Ramsay Way. “We are very proud of what Jess has achieved, and this accolade also underpins a very strong, very interactive and very hands on mentoring system at the hospital,” says Margaret Mason St George Private Learning and Development Manager. Vale Heather Wright Heather Wright, registered nurse and midwife of Peninsula Private Hospital since the early 1980s, has died aged 69 years. Heather was a very proud Alfred Hospital trained nurse. She commenced employment at Peninsula Private in Frankston in the early 1980s and progressed from ward nurse to unit manager. She was instrumental in the development and design of the new Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), built at the hospital in 1999. Her dedication, enthusiasm and foresight is evident in the current PACU, as numerous visiting health professionals comment on the excellent, seamless design. Heather was a natural leader, uncompromising, always putting patient care above all else, and therefore earning the respect and regard of all her colleagues. Heather was a consummate professional, fun-loving, loyal and generous person who led by example. A very special lady, a much loved colleague and friend. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends at Peninsula Private Hospital. Know someone in nursing who deserves an award?
