The Ramsay Way - Autumn 2014

New Cath Lab opens in Ipswich The Ramsay Way - 2014 | 01 5 DEVELOPMENTS RESIDENTS OF THE HUNTER REGION CAN NOW ACCESS A COMPLETE RANGE OF CANCER CARE SERVICES AT LAKE MACQUARIE’S NEW HUNTER CANCER CENTRE. The new comprehensive cancer service located on the Lake Macquarie Private Hospital campus was officially opened in early March and offers improved access to comprehensive cancers services for both public and private patients. The radiation oncology service will be operated by Genesis. Currently, one in four cancer patients in the Hunter region are not able to access radiotherapy treatment close to home and it is expected that the opening of this unit will improve access to treatment. Lake Macquarie Private Hospital CEO Ian Maytom said it had been well documented over many years that there was more demand for cancer treatment in the Hunter than services available and the launch of the Hunter Cancer Centre, would help improve access to treatment. “Services provided at Hunter Cancer Care will include rapid access to radiotherapy for public and private patients. This will mean greatly reduced waiting times for care, less travel and significantly less stress on families,” Mr Maytom said. Hunter Cancer Centre opens at Lake Macquarie DEMOLITION WORKS HAVE COMMENCED IN THE SYLVIA PERRY WING OF HOLLYWOOD PRIVATE HOSPITAL & MARK THE BEGINNING OF A NEW & EXCITING PHASE OF THE HOSPITAL’S $74.1 MILLION EXPANSION PROJECT. The expansion will include a new six storey building that will house two new 30-bed wards, six additional theatres and a new kitchen. A 30-bed ward shell will be included as the top level of the new building, allowing for future clinical expansion. Significant early works for the Hollywood (mental health) Clinic expansion are already completed and this unit is on track to open its new 30 bed wing in May 2014. CABOOLTURE PRIVATE WILL SHORTLY UNDERGO AN EIGHT MILLION DOLLAR EXPANSION WITH PLANS TO ADD A THIRD OPERATING THEATRE & A NEW DAY SURGERY CENTRE TO THE FACILITY. In a first of its kind for Queensland, the new theatre and day surgery will be modular in design allowing it to be built offsite as 12 separate individual building modules which will then be delivered onsite, assembled and fitted out. This revolutionary construction process will significantly reduce the overall construction time, resulting in this new extension to the hospital being ready for occupancy by June 2014. $74m expansion underway at Hollywood New theatre for Caboolture Private ST ANDREW’S PRIVATE HOSPITAL HAS BEGUN TREATING CARDIAC PATIENTS IN ITS NEW STATEOF THE-ART CATHETER LABORATORY. Work on the catheter lab began before Christmas. The new lab will give private health patients the opportunity to have procedures in Ipswich instead of travelling into Brisbane. When the lab reaches full capacity, doctors will be able to assess approximately 40 patients a week. Ipswich is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland and it is expected that the service will be very busy quickly. The completion of the cardiac catheter laboratory is the latest in the development of new services at the Hospital and follows the opening of the day chemotherapy centre, and an onsite respiratory function testing centre last year. Early works already completed on the Hollywood Clinic expansion. St Andrew’s Ipswich team in their new Catheter Laboratory.
