DEVELOPMENT NEWS Holistic Mental Health Clinic Underway at St Leonard’s Construction has started on the Northside Group’s St Leonards Clinic, a purpose-built mental health facility with 112 single rooms, day services and on site consulting suites – designed to replace the existing Northside Clinic in Greenwich. Northside Group CEO Anne Mortimer said the clinic would provide an innovative, holistic treatment centre that caters to both patients with mental health disorders as well as those in the community who care for them. “This facility supports a multi-faceted approach to health by offering medical, psychological and counselling, psychosocial, recreational, physical and diversional interventions. The hospital will also include outstanding educational facilities for the training and education of doctors, nurses and psychologists.” She said the clinic would cater for both inpatient and day patients while also providing private outpatient appointments. With construction anticipated to take 12 months, the clinic is expected to open in early 2018. Former Minister announces builder for $7.1m Joondalup redevelopment ADCO has been appointed as the builder for the new $7.1 million mental health observation area at Joondalup Health Campus, with construction set to get underway this month. The former WA Mental Health Minister Andrea Mitchell visited JHC to make the announcement and said the 10-bed mental health observation area would improve care for mental health patients by providing a more appropriate environment, away from the busy emergency department. "Modelled on the country's most successful units, this facility will take pressure off the hospital's emergency department, which treats close to 100,000 patients annually making it one of the busiest emergency departments in the country," she said. She said mental health is one of the greatest issues facing the local community. “In 2015-16, some 4,454 patients presented at the Joondalup Health Campus emergency department with mental health issues as the primary health diagnosis, with some 30 per cent requiring admission to a mental health unit," she said The mental health observation area will include four bedrooms with glass sliding doors, six patient bays, a patient lounge, a secure outdoor courtyard and a waiting area. The project will be jointly funded with the State Government contributing $5.1 million towards the project and Ramsay Health Care committing a further $2 million. 4 The Ramsay Way 2017 | 01 Waverley Private development officially opened The $16 million redevelopment of Waverley Private Hospital was unveiled in December by Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex.
