DEVELOPMENTS Ramsay UK & Genesis to deliver integrated cancer services RAMSAY HEALTH CARE UK & GENESISCARE, AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST PROVIDER OF RADIOTHERAPY SERVICES, HAVE ANNOUNCED A LONG TERM PARTNERSHIP FOR THE PROVISION OF HIGH QUALITY INTEGRATED CANCER SERVICES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. Cancer patients in Essex and Hertfordshire will be the first to benefit from the improved access to care, new treatment techniques and co-ordination of care to support their needs. In these regions, Ramsay’s Rivers Hospital in Sawbridgeworth and Ramsay’s Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford will be the first locations to build new comprehensive cancer centres. Both sites are expected to open new cancer services during 2015. Ramsay and GenesisCare are currently evaluating other regions in the UK that would also benefit from increased access to high quality cancer services and are expecting to announce further locations in the next 12 months. RAMSAY SIME DARBY HEALTH CARE HAS ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAS BEEN AWARDED A CONTRACT BY MALDIVIAN INVESTMENT COMPANY TREE TOP HEALTH PRIVATE LIMITED, TO MANAGE A N EW STATEOF THE-ART PRIVATE HOSPITAL IN THE ISLAND NATION OF MALDIVES. Top Tree Health has purchased a parcel of land in the residential island of Hulhumalé for the upcoming hospital and its support services. Hulhumalé, located in the south of North Malé Atoll, is an island that began reclamation in 1997 to meet local demands for housing, commercial and industrial land. Since then, it has grown tremendously and now boasts residential areas, hotels and there are currently plans for an airport. Ramsay’s existing chemotherapy services will be relocated into new facilities along with GenesisCare’s radiotherapy services, the latest diagnostic tools, imaging technology and surgical oncology capabilities. Both hospitals are also expanding capacity through major capital investment, to ensure ongoing 24 hour access for patients requiring admitted care. A complete ‘Survivorship Program’ will be offered to support patients through their journey. This will include counselling, nutritional support, speech pathology and exercise programs all in the one location. These services will be integrated with one electronic medical record and one contact point for patients and will extend to out of hospital support where needed. Both organisations are committed to achieving the best possible clinical outcomes for patients and to remain at the forefront of cancer care, through links to education and research projects. Rivers and Springfield Hospitals have over 20 years’ experience of delivering cancer services, and bringing the GenesisCare The proposed 159-bed hospital will be the first private hospital in Hulhumalé and is expected to cater to the island nation’s growing population, expatriate workers, as well as serve the vast number of tourists who visit the Maldives. The new hospital, named “Tree Top Hospital”, is slated for completion in November 2016 and will be fully operational to receive patients in March 2017. Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care has been engaged to assist in the planning, design and commissioning of the hospital and will operate the hospital as part of its Management & Consultancy Services business. “Many local hospitals provide only limited medical services with patients having to leave the Maldives to obtain more specialized services such as interventional cardiology, neurology and critical care. In a first for the region, patients will no longer need to travel up to an hour for essential radiotherapy services, spending time away from their families or work to receive treatment on a daily basis for up to 6 weeks.
