In her role as Allied Health Manager at Ramsay Clinic Macarthur, Katrina Demirdjian’s favourite part of her work is helping to nurture and support early-career psychologists.
Katrina has worked at Ramsay Clinic Macarthur since it opened 10 years ago, first joining as a Clinical Psychologist, then being appointed the Allied Health Manager role in 2021.
“I manage the Allied Health team which includes a range of professionals from a variety of disciplines including psychologists, counsellors, art therapist, music therapist, exercise physiologists, and yoga instructor,” said Katrina.
“I am responsible for coordinating the inpatient group therapy program and supporting team members who facilitate this program. I also coordinate the day programs that the clinic offers, including DBT Skills group, Anxiety/Mood Disorders groups, Art Therapy Day Program and Mental Health Support Day Programs.”
“I enjoy seeing the progress that patients make throughout their admission. It is great to develop ongoing, supportive relationships with patients who continue to entrust their care to Ramsay Clinic Macarthur across multiple admissions.”
Katrina has taken advantage of Ramsay’s professional development opportunities to pursue her interest in mentoring new psychologists.
“Ramsay supported me in becoming a Board approved supervisor so that I can supervise provisional psychologists (students) who are completing their Master of Clinical Psychology. This is a part of my role that I really enjoy, helping to support early-career psychologists.”
When asked why she chose to join the team at Ramsay Clinic Macarthur, Katrina gave the answer so often given by Ramsay employees – the people.
“I really joined because of the team. I had previously worked with a number of the doctors and staff who were also starting at the clinic when it opened and it was a big drawcard for me to work with people who are so passionate about supporting people through their mental health recovery.”
“I think Ramsay Clinic Macarthur and Ramsay generally, is an innovative organisation that bases its growth on its main foundation which is caring for people. I think most decisions are based on how we can best care for people and I’m proud to be part of it.”
