Lake Macquarie Private invests in latest robotic technology

July 20, 2021

Residents of Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and Port Stephens now have greater access to the latest robotic technology with Lake Macquarie Private Hospital investing in the da Vinci Xi robot.

The innovative technology expands a surgeons human capabilities and allows minimally invasive surgery to be performed for complex urological and gynaecological procedures.

The first cases utilising the da Vinci Xi at Lake Macquarie Private were performed by Urologists Dr Peter Chong and Dr Marcus Handmer.

Dr Handmer said the new technology was good news for the region.

It means Lake Macquarie Private can provide the full gamut of Urology care for patients, including minimally invasive oncologic and reconstructive procedures with robotic assistance, such as robot assisted prostatectomy, pyeloplasty, and partial nephrectomy,” Dr Handmer said.

Chief Executive Officer Sharon Rewitt said the new robot was an exciting milestone for the hospital.

As a part of Ramsay Health Care we are committed to our community and were proud to invest in this latest technology to give patients access to a broad range of medical treatment options,” MsRewitt said.

This innovative technology will be available to patients at no extra cost, meaning our surgeons have the freedom to choose the appropriate surgical approach for each patient,” she said.
