Ramsay Health Care focuses on safety as Tropical Cyclone Alfred approaches

March 07, 2025

As south-east Queensland and northern NSW residents prepare for Tropical Cyclone Alfred to make landfall, Ramsay Health Care has been taking proactive steps to ensure its hospitals are ready for the impacts of the severe weather system.

The safety of patients and staff members is Ramsay’s top priority, which is why non-urgent elective surgeries have been cancelled from Noosa to the Gold Coast from Thursday 6 March to Saturday 8 March. Affected patients have been contacted directly to make alternative arrangements.

Ramsay’s emergency centres at Pindara, Greenslopes, St Andrew's Ipswich and Noosa will remain open to treat those community members in need of urgent medical assistance.

Ramsay hospitals have been ensuring they are ready for the severe weather system by:

  • Testing generators and ensuring there is adequate fuel supplies to maintain power.
  • Reviewing and implementing business continuity plans including making sure there is enough essential supplies like bottled water.
  • Ensuring teams have access to Ramsay’s national crisis command centre for support and guidance.

Ramsay is extremely grateful for the team members and doctors who will continue to work during the cyclone to look after vulnerable patients. This includes catering, housekeeping, medical and nursing health care workers who will be away from their own homes and families to spend time caring for others.

Ramsay is encouraging visitors to prioritise their safety and request that they do not come to hospital during the severe weather event, except if they are collecting a patient who is leaving the hospital.
