Ramsay Hospital Research Foundation CEO, Nicola Ware, said Ramsay is currently involved in more than 1,000 clinical trials and research projects engaging almost 40,000 patients.

“Ramsay is proud to play a leading role in Australia’s health and medical research sector, driving research through the Ramsay Hospital Research Foundation, our Clinical Trials Network, supported by our comprehensive Research Ethics, and Governance units,” Ms Ware said.

“We currently have more than 500 Ramsay clinicians involved in research in areas including mental health, mothers, babies and children, frailty, orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, rehabilitation, cancer and COVID-19.

“Ramsay is committed to driving and participating in research that will shape the future of health care and improve methods of preventing, diagnosing, treating and controlling diseases.

“We hope this research will lead to better patient outcomes and healthier communities.”

Ms Ware said Australia is currently experiencing a surge in local research, with COVID-19 impacts in regions including Europe and the United States resulting in the decentralisation of medical research and clinical trials.

“Since the onset of the pandemic we’ve seen a sharp increase in the number of clinical trials being undertaken in Australia, with many international markets dedicated solely to COVID-19 related research.

“To allow other areas of research to continue, trials were spread around the world and often run online.

“The Ramsay Health Care Clinical Trials Network currently has 291 trials underway, a 35 per cent increase compared to December 2020.”
