Ramsay nurses have ‘Florence Nightingale moment’ at Sydney’s mass COVID-19 vaccination hub

August 10, 2021

Ramsay Health Care nurses who have volunteered to work at the Sydney Olympic Park mass vaccination hub say the experience has been ‘amazing’ and they’re proud of their ‘Florence Nightingale moment’ helping to protect the community.

Ramsay nurse immunisers, registered nurses and pharmacists are among the hundreds of clinical staff on site at Sydney Olympic Park, helping to administer more than 8,000 vaccines every day, seven days a week.

Nicole Lovegrove from North Shore Private Hospital said the experience of working at the vaccination hub has been amazing.

Its an opportunity to be part of a really important thing, a once in a lifetime thing. Id recently completed the nurse immuniser course with a plan to be able to help vaccinate, so it was just a fantastic opportunity to be part of something thats vital for our country. This is our Florence Nightingale moment,” Ms Lovegrove said.

Michelle Pinci, from Baringa Private Hospital, has been a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years. She said she jumped at the chance’ to work at the vaccination hub.

Since COVID-19 entered our lives I was feeling prepared in any way, small or large, to assist in either prevention, protection or caring for those impacted on our home soil,” Ms Pinci said.

Its been simply amazing to be involved in a highly organised and well thought out project like this. I consistently receive feedback from our vaccine recipients on how impressed they are by the whole process and Ive been so encouraged by the public that theyre taking responsibility to commit to vaccination to protect themselves and the community,” she said.

Ann-Maree Lines, whos based at Mt Wilga Private Hospital, agrees the experience has been fantastic.

The best vision is watching people positively run up the Sydney Olympic Park vaccination hub ramp for their jab. Smiling from ear to ear under their masks with a sparkle in their eyes as they say I am here for my vaccination,” Ms Lines said.

This experience has been rewarding and challenging, opening my eyes to different forms of patient care available for nurses.

There is a diverse collection of nurses, GPs, airline attendants, pharmacists, dentists, cultural workers and interpreters and we all have a shared collective pride in what were achieving at Sydney Olympic vaccination hub.”

The Ramsay staff members I have met are lovely, knowledgable, and considerate, proving much-needed support for the vaccination hub,” Ms Lines said.
