Robotic-assisted knee surgery now available for Tamworth community

September 04, 2025

Residents of Tamworth and surrounding regions can now access advanced robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery close to home, with Tamara Private Hospital unveiling Tamworth’s first orthopaedic surgical robot.

Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Max Leibenson, said the new robotic technology was designed to enhance surgical accuracy and improve outcomes for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty.

“We’re excited to bring this next-generation robotic technology to Tamworth,” Dr Leibenson said.

“The robotic system allows us to personalise each procedure to the patient’s unique anatomy. It’s a significant step forward in how we perform knee replacements.

“By using robotic assistance, we aim to improve the precision of every procedure and provide more consistent outcomes for our patients.”

The robotic system, the ROSA, is designed to assist the surgeon with bone resections, soft tissue assessments and aligning implants with increased accuracy.

Tamara Private Hospital CEO, Debra Maslen, said the new technology reflected Ramsay Health Care’s commitment to bringing leading healthcare solutions to regional communities.

“We’re proud to offer the latest in surgical technology to the Tamworth community,” Ms Maslen said.

“Having access to robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery locally means patients don’t have to travel far to receive the highest standard of care.”
