Matthew graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2006. He then completed specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery at hospitals in Australia and the U.S.A., to become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He is also a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA).
Matthew trained in orthopaedic trauma at the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle, one of the busiest trauma centres in Australia. He has completed subspecialty studies and was awarded a Master of Surgery (ChM) by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh for research on ACL reconstruction techniques. Matthew was a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Scholar and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the University of Melbourne for studies on bone biology and orthopaedic oncology. Matthew is a Conjoint Lecturer of the University of New South Wales. He has been the lead author on numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and presents research internationally.
Having completed an AOA Fellowship in lower limb reconstruction at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Matthew has gained experience in treating patients of all ages, including the younger, active patient. He has an interest in hip replacement through both the minimally invasive direct anterior and posterior approaches, mechanically and kinematically aligned total knee replacement, knee ligament reconstruction and joint preservation.
